lightroom crashing when loading up :(

hi all, i can't get adobe lightroom working on my win 7 machine. It always crashes when it loads up, whereas it used to work fine.

A message comes up saying 'opening catalog: dsc_0632.JPG.urcat' but then i get the windows dialogue box popping up saying adobe lightroom has stopped working etc etc.

i've tried uninstalling and reinstalling, and rolling back to an earlier version. No joy. Please help!!

If you run the installer again, is there a repair option?

Try deleting the preferences file.

Try holding control when you click on the shortcut for lightroom. It should bring up the select catalog window. Might be worth checking 'test integrity of this catalog' and then trying to open it.

If that fails, try creating a new catalog and seeing if you can import from the previous catalog (bottom post).

3.3, but uninstalled and tried 3.2 but still does the same.

Hmm I'm using 3 also. Are you holding control THEN clicking on the shortcut to open it? That should bypass the catalog and so shouldn't crash.

Yes, very strange. Any idea how i completely remove all traces of lightroom?

Users/[username]/AppData/Roaming/Adobe/Lightroom/Preferences

File is called Preferences.agprefs so rename it to .old or something and start lightroom, worth a try.

This is for lightroom 1 but can't be that much different surely.

sorted it! found the offending file (dsc_0632.JPG) on my desktop, deleted it, and now LR opens fine! Phew
