So i replaced my standard lightswitch with a dimmer switch. took it off and blimey there wasnt much wire to play with which worries me if i ever have to take it off again..

Anyway.. when turned on it gives a really faint buzzing noise which is very annoying as i know its there.

Why would this be ?:confused:

Careful...some of the cheaper ones can have intermittant electrical contacts within them which can either wear out or burn out. Best to shut your leccy off and unscrew the switch plate from the wall. Of it smells like it may be getting hot, or burning, then it's time to replace it.

I think some "expensive" ones don't buzz. But most do. It's just the way the electricity is regulated, to dim the light.

Its common on cheaper dimmer switches

From John Lewis of all places;

Why does my dimmer buzz?

Some wall mounted switches will emit an annoying hum when turned to their lowest setting. This is quite normal but will vary in intensity between the type of dimmer and the type of lighting unit being dimmed. Reducing the bulb wattage may be a solution but trying a different dimmer switch may also alleviate the problem.
