After researching TV's about 6 months ago and realising that I'd only be happy with OLED, but not being able to afford the 65" at £6K, I finally made the man maths add up with the recent big price cuts, so I'm now waiting on delivery of my LG 65EC970V which I got for £2999.

This will be going in my dedicate cinema room, with a viewing distance of 10ft, so the size should be a lot more impactful than the current 51" Plasma I have.

Really can't wait to take delivery and start playing around with the settings....just in time for 2 weeks off at xmas to rewatch all my favourite movies!

I don't really game on mine, althoughI do have an X360 that I play very occasionally (maybe 3 or 4 times a year!).

This quote from one of the reviews makes it seem not too bad, although if I was a gamer I'd definitely wait for something else.

LG has traditionally been a brand to avoid for gamers, thanks to the majority of its sets suffering high levels of input lag (the time it takes for a TV to render images). The 65EC970V, though, recorded an input lag figure of just over 50ms which, while still certainly higher than the 10-20ms measured on the very fastest reacting TVs, is low enough to at least make the 65EC970V a passable gaming screen – actually much more than passable when you take its contrast and motion response into account.

For me though, it's all about the contrast and black levels. I was so disappointed in all the LCD/LED TV's I looked at - none of them could compare to plasma, especially in a dark room, but when I demo'd this I was blown away :)

Cool man. I got the 55EG960V, and I'm really enjoying it. The picture quality really is something else.

OK, well now I'm like a kid at xmas that has his presents taken away!

After initial delight at the TV, it then developed horizontal lines (not banding). Its taken a few calls between John Lewis and LG, including sending them photos, but they have admitted it's definitely a fault so now I'm waiting for JL to send a replacement which should arrive by xmas.

2nd time lucky hopefully! The tech at LG said he's never seen the fault before.

An update on mine.

Really rubbish service from John Lewis. Rang them today as I hadn't heard from them re a replacement date. Turns out the person I spoke to last week had only done half the job and not passed on the details for the collection. Short version is that it's too late for xmas now, so I won't get the replacement until 30th December.

So annoyed - I'm stuck with a crap picture for the one long holiday I've had all year. I had so many films I'd been saving for xmas too....wish I'd just kept my plasma :(

Definitely won't be buying anything large from John Lewis again. They may have a call centre that picks up the phone quickly, but that's not the same thing as competent staff that actually provide a good service.

Also, I know this is first world problems lol, but just needed to vent!

That really sucks mate. Being a guy who has sent many tv's and monitors back i feel your pain. with My pc monitor i had to ring LG about 10 times to get them to actually hurry up as they were taking forever lol.

I just got an OLED myself last week and i know how exciting it can be with the picture quality these produce. Id definatly stick with it as LED just doesnt come close at all to these sets and hopefully you get a good one next time.

Yeah, definitely sticking with a replacement. I just bought a replacement 43" LG LCD for the living room (as the smallest OLED is still too big for there) and whilst it's ok, the difference between that and the OLED is absolutely huge.

Crappy luck man :/

OLED is still too expensive.
Even £1000 for a 65 inch is too expensive in my eyes.
Probably wont even get close to that price.

I have a 42plasma right now, I sit rather close to it 200cm abouts, so it feels like I have big picture.
Plan to get a projector eventually (or OLED if the price drops dramaticly)

I've rearranged my room so I'm now sat about 2M from the 65" screen. It's quite cinematic, but you really notice a lot of detail in films - we watched Star Wars Ep4 last night. 1080P bluray and I noticed things I'd never seen before....downside is you can really see the shonky props and model making too!

To be honest the lines are still watchable - I'd rather watch the OLED with lines than the LCD without them! I just want it to be perfect for that price though!

Same here, OLED massively needs to improve it's response times.

I game on my TV, and OLED currently has awful input lag.

Isnt response time and input lag two different things? If im correct OLED has the fastest response time of any tv type. Its something like 0.001ms . lcd gaming monitor for example is like 1ms.

Really rubbish service from John Lewis.

Doesn't surprise me in the slightest!!!

Despite hearing lots of good things about their customer service, I had a nightmare of a time with them a couple of years ago when I purchased a hob and an oven.

Delays in delivery and customer service people who never called back when they said they would and who never passed on information from one department to another caused me about 3 weeks of headaches. I certainly wouldn't buy from them again on the alleged strength of the customer service!!!

How did you get for that price?

Black Friday deal on John Lewis - it's back up to £3999 now.

Anyway....good news! Went to watch a movie tonight and it appears to have fixed itself! Very strange as I hadn't changed anything from Sunday, when I watched Star Wars complete with lines, but now it's perfect again. Strangely someone on AVForums had the same thing happen.

I'll see how it goes over Christmas!
