Like the 100k a year plumbers for networking

I know a chap who earns well over £100K working for a large international IT company, not entirely sure what he does as he tried to dodge questions but he is incredibly intelligent and creative. I've never seen anyone pick up programming languages as fast as he does so it wouldn't surprise me if it's a security/hacking style role.

Amusingly he has no qualifications other than a few O'grades (GCSE level).

Aye... some of the most brilliant technical people I know have no formal qualifications. Just tons of self teaching your self the stuff and hours and hours of practice.

The formal qualifications are only to get you past HR (to get an interview). After that they have negligible worth. :p

This is what I have wanted to do for years... but somehow got sidelined into Java development. Would love the opportunity to actually train up properly for security work :)

Its that or i'll be wearing a firearm in the states protecting money!!

I do something similar. Specialise in Advanced Cryptography. I attack networks all day long for a fortune 500 company. I absolutely love my Job :)

Tis a specialised TA unit for people in information security - you get to join as a professionally qualified officer (i.e. same course as a doctor/chaplain etc..) so you start as a Captain and they basically seem to do short tours AFAIK this can involve literally popping over to Iraq for say two weeks.

Tis a specialist unit so no having to turn up for drill evenings - just bare minimum of weekends to ensure you meet the basic requirements - fitness & shooting tests annually etc... and basically you're role is the same as your civilian job - just as it would be for say a doctor or chaplain in the reserve forces.

Would try it myself but I'm not a security expert.
