Likely cause?

Basically, for my last computer I had watercooling for several months, however a few months in, the temperatures randomly spiked to 95°C and would cause a shutdown every 10-20 minutes, rest of time it would be its normal temp and run fine

I just switched it out for a air based heatsink as I didn't have time due to university, but while I'm looking at watercooling again soon would like to see most likely cause.

So any ideas what most likely caused this?

Main components I had were;

XSPC RX240 Black
XSPC Dual 750 Bay Reservoir Pump Rev2 Multi Fascia
EK-Supreme Universal CPU - Acetal Inc 775/1156/1366

I've seen people saying they only got 6 months out of their XSPC pump, would this likely to be the problem?

why not hook it all up and jump the psu to see if it runs fine on it's own?

Most likely the pump temporarily failed.

I'll try it again next week

The thing was it was running fine you could see the water flowing through it, but its temp just spiked for a few sec caused shutdown, restarted and worked fine, then in a bit would do the same again

Just figured may aswell find the cause as I could get it back up and running, or sell the parts on, beats £250 of equipment sitting in a box hiding away

Hmmm, more likely a dodgy sensor in that case then.

Is it distilled water that I can get cheap to test (i.e 5 litres cheap from halfords)?

If pump fails how will I know, only by holding tube to feel pressure?

strip your cpu block to rule out a blockage,flush the rads.but sounds like maybe a faulty pump

for preference you may want to stick permanently with Distilled
(De-ionised from Halfords and most UK places, same thing)

if you want pretty colours, Mayhem dyes I believe to be waterbased and do not gunk up your blocks

Watercooling stuff I have atm are about 1-2 year old

(was for my old i7 920)

2 other things

MY pumps started to under perform after a while .. I had either over tightened the fittings or they just needed a clean out...

secondly

how easy is it to dismantle and clean your EK-Supreme Universal CPU - Acetal Inc 775/1156/1366
??

if it's full of icky ! best to check that first before blaming the pump

No idea how to dismantle it, its in a box at the bottom of everything atm

there has been a few Pumps failed on the xspc showing up on various forums lately. There may have have been a bad batch. Try Contacting XSPC direct and getting a RMA from Paul.

XSPC rma Process is relay good and Paul will help you out as much as possible.

Pump is about 1.5 years old now I think, just not had any time to do anything about it had to quickly change to air cooling so I could get on with work

Worked fine for about 6-12 months I think it was.
