Get some Sarsons White Malt Vinegar (its clear) and add three parts vinegar to one part water. Leave it for a few hours / overnight in the kettle. I wouldn't recommend boiling the vinegar - its stinks and bubbles up violently!
Once descaled pour back into bottle for re-use and boil kettle with cold water to get rid of the after taste/smell.
Also drench some white vinegar on kitchen roll, wrap around taps and voila limescale comes off so much easier! Also great on shower doors!
