Limited Connectivity.

Since last night, my desktop pc has had limited connectivity. It is run from the pc through an ethernet cable into the powerline adapter, one up stairs and one downstairs near the router (Sky).

My laptop running Ubuntu works fine on wireless, as well as the iPad and Sky TV.

I have tried a plethora of things to get it running but it just won't work. Any ideas?

Tried disabling, renabling no luck. It shows the Gateway as either blank or 0.0.0.0 there is an IP address below, but I think that's one I tried entering manually.

You should assume that it's the Powerline adapters to blame until you can prove differently. They are, by far, the most likely thing to have stopped working.

Default Gateway shows as 0.0.0.0
And an entry below which I entered previously. Not great at networking (as you can tell heh) but shouldn'tthe gateway be the IP?

I would go with the powerline adapters too, check the lights on both to see if they are alive and try turning them off and on.

Both are on, green lights on all led's bar the middle, which has now turned red. But that may be from my stepdads pc which just turned off, not sure if that would effect it.

On the Ipvp4 properties you can either set the IP to automatic, or enter the address yourself. I entered the IP into the box myself, into the gateway. But still no joy.

Have you, as suggested earlier, tried connecting the laptop to the network cable the PC uses? Does it work?

Have you tried installing the utility software for the Powerline adapters? Most do have utilities available that'll show you some useful information about the connection (or lack of).

1. Yes, it just refreshes the connection trying to establish one.

2. I haven't. But the Adapter was working fine previously. Although the BT guy did come out to work on those green electrical units you see around. But it's weird that mine cannot be detected/even work after all I've tried.

I'm not sure if 'Yes, it just refreshes the connection trying to establish one.' means the connection is working, or not. Does the laptop (wireless disabled), when connected in place of the desktop, get a valid IP and manage to connect to out the Internet?

Is there anyway that you could connect the PC to the router without using the Powerline adapters?

Does IPCONFIG show that the PC is getting a IPv4 address that starts 169?

Hmm, Plugged in the cable to my laptop, and "connection established" popped up and it works on here now. Ill try the desktop another time.

Router to pc direct would need to buy a long ethernet cable which I can do maybe tomorrow as I am out in town anyway.

right, cmd:

it has an ipv4 address, has a subnet mask, and the default gateway is shown now (no 0.0.0.0 anymore)

There isnt a connection specific dns suffix, there is a link local ipv6 address. hope that helps.
