Limits - how do they work?

A limitless vessel is the name of my new album releasing fall of this year as well as the name of a Culture ship, probably, and could also tie in with ICP's Rainbows song if you can stretch that far after a brisk warm up.

We - you - are born useless. We can't even hold a Teams meeting without being on mute until we are roughly 4 years old and that's just the beginning of the slippery uphill struggle to stardom.

Locking the front door without leaving the key on the outside? That's a year 8 puzzle.

How does [x] go into [y] is one for both mathematicians and perverts*

But if the Football Manager series of computer videogames has taught us anything it is that the 3d match engine is a shambles and why do Arsenal also score in the last 4 seconds of injury time when my tactics were obviously better and, no hang on, here's another thing about it is it is about potential. The ability to grow and develop. Learn from our histories and write our futures. Become the attacking midfielder you'd hate to play against. Compare where you are to where you could be.

To wit: Potential Ability (PA) and Current Ability (CA). The scale is 0 (lowest) to 200 (highest).

Task: rate your PA and CA and post it in this thread if you'd like to.

ME:
Current Ability = 132
Potential Ability = 139

* not unrelated.

Current Ability = 127 (can lock doors, mostly unmuted on Teams, still conceding last-second goals)

Potential Ability = 188 (limitless, provided someone patches my 3D match engine)

Let me hear you say yeah! (Yeah)
Let me hear you say yeah! (Yeah)
No, no, no, no, no, no
No, no, no, no, no, no there's no limit!
No, no, no, no, no, no
No, no, no, no, no, no there's no limit!
No, no limits, we'll reach for the sky
No valley too deep, no mountain too high
No, no limits, won't give up the fight
We do what we want and we do it with pride
Let me hear you say yeah! (Yeah)
Hard to the core, I feel the floor
When I'm on stage, yo, you ask for more
I'm on the edge, I know the ledge
I work real hard to collect my cash
Tick tick ticka tick take your time
When I'm goin', I'm goin' for mine
Open your ears and you will hear it
I tell you this 'cause there's no limit
No, no, no, no, no, no
No, no, no, no, no, no there's no limit!
No, no, no, no, no, no
No, no, no, no, no, no there's no limit!
No, no limits, we'll reach for the sky
No valley too deep, no mountain too high
No, no limits, won't give up the fight
We do what we want and we do it with pride
Ow! Hey yay yeah hey hey!
Now, now, no, no
Hey yeah, yeah hey, hey!
Now, now, ooh!
No limits allowed, cause there's much crowd
Microphone check as I choose my route
I'm playing on the road, I've got no fear
The sound from my mouth is a rap you hear
No valley too deep, no mountain too high
Reach the top, touch the sky
They tried to diss me 'cause I sell out
I'm making techno and I am proud
No, no limits, we'll reach for the sky
No valley too deep, no mountain too high
No, no limits, won't give up the fight
We do what we want and we do it with pride

I can recommend a decent calculus book if you want?

Misuse of Calculus is a great Mind name.

e: it'd be A Misuse of Calculus, thinking about it further. Mr Iain M Banks visited my Primary School when I was in Primary Four - this is a true story, I'm barely joking - and we had no idea who he was. A very sweet man and I wished I'd paid more attention.

I'm not sure that PA and CA are measurable, and they must vary with age and experience. Thinking about whether I'm working at my potential is quite uncomfortable, by brain is dodging the question. The question leads to comparing with others which is a risky business.

There are times when I matched my potential, mostly as a young kid at school. Then I got a pc and my grades dropped. Then I went to uni and smashed it again. Then I started work and worked really hard but didn't spend my time on the right things due to lack of experience. Then I got more experience but instead was limited by office politics. Now I'm pretty good at what I do but the scope of tech is so vast I'm regularly encountering things I barely know at all.

My parents never even tried to hit their potential. Average intelligence people but worked minimum wage their whole lives. I've always been told to do my best but life shows that isn't really necessary.
