Hi all, I'm after a few opinions!

I started my build a couple of years ago and put a 750Ti in. After 18 months I upgraded to a gtx titan and really appreciated the difference.

I'm currently gaming at 1080 on ultra settings with the foresight to get a 1440 monitor in the next couple of months... Maybe black Friday.

I was just wondering which card people would advise to get and whether to get it now or when I get the monitor. I have been eyeing up the 1070s and this would be about the same price increase between my last cards, would I see a similar increase in performance?

I would say 1440p @ 60Hz a 1070 would be a good choice.

If you want 1440p @144Hz then a 1080 might be a better option.

The thing with going from playing 1080p Ultra settings to going to 1440p is there is a big performance hit, but once you go 1440p you wont go back, and once you go 144Hz you wont go back.... and once you have both, your be like me, and upgrading 980 SLi for some 1080 SLi just to see an improvement :P

Haha thanks for the reply mate, I'm not in the position to be getting 1080 SLI just yet as I'm also 'saving for a house' but I'm glad there is a difference, Iv got one eye on the 980Ti now its had a price drop on this wonderful website, and also 4k monitors are very tempting to avoid upgrading twice but I think that's a bit too much....

Have you actually tried a 1440p monitor? You might find the difference to be overrated.

Imo if you're only going to hold the card for 18-24 months then there's cracking deals to be had for 980 tis, especially second hand (check for transferable warranty). Otherwise, 1070 is the safest option though a bit pricier.

Cheapest GTX1070 you can find or save your money - Titan will still do ok for 1440p 60Hz you might just have to go easy on the AA/use FXAA and/or turn down shadow detail a notch or 2 in some games.
