So... I'm not one for suits. (last one I bought was in 2010 for my wedding which I've maybe worn once since)

I've got 2 weddings to attend this year, one in July and one in India in October so think it's time for a new suit of the linen variety as I believe they are cooler.

Anyone got any recommendations of where to buy? Ideally not massively expensive as I'll probably not wear it again for years.

Don’t get linen, it’ll crease immediately and look pretty casual rather than smart you’re hoping for.
Get a cotton blend, just go to M&S and see what they have.

Depends on the wedding.

I had linen suits for me and my groomsmen but then it was a laid-back Cornish beach wedding. We still looked smart.

Mine came from M&S - plenty of options, good range of sizes and not too expensive.

Whatever you do, avoid TM Lewin like the plague.

M&S are great.

Instead of seeing the purchase as a must-do chore, embrace it. Groom yourself, get a haircut, make sure you've got awesome shoes (polish them if need be) and then go buy a suit. Trust me, there are few feelings in the world as good as looking back at yourself in the mirror when you're worth a million bucks from top to toe

I also don't recommend buying stuff for the day and sending it back afterwards. No, not at all.

Linen suits are great, I have a couple. Wear them sparingly, and only in good weather. I wouldn't wear one to a wedding unless it's a laid back event.

Make sure you've got a decent Panama hat to go with it. I'd wear this sort of suit for the appropriate event.

From personal experience I've found both local suit shops that aren't chain owned and outlet places very good for suits. You find they are a bit cheaper but still good quality than the main ones ie. Moss Bros and M&S. Never been in the position to buy a proper, expensive, Saville Row style offering though so I guess it depends what you're looking for.

Ideal wear for when you're having a guest for dinner.

I really like a linen suit. M&S have some nice three piece pale ones in at the moment. Teamed with a crisp white shirt and a good pair of suede loafers I think they look great for the Summer.
