Hello there im wanting to connect my pc graphic card
to the imac display i have the 27 inch version.
some1 said i need a adaptor active 1 but cant find 1 please help.
thx in response.

You should only need a cable then. Going from your display port on the graphics card to the mini display port on the iMac.

Its not quite as simple as just a cable, you will need something like a Dr Bott Digital Video Link, a Kanex XD adapter or a belkin converter to use your 27" imac as a monitor. I think at the moment you can only put a 720p signal into it. I have a Dr Bott adapter arriving this week so I can watch blu rays on my mac.

That doesn't sound quite right? I'm planning of using an iMac as a PC Monitor, why wouldn't a proper displayport output from a PC display at 2560x1440 on the iMac? It's exactly the same standard, which is just a miniaturised version of DVI surely?

i think you need mini display port enabled graphics ala on the new macbooks etc the 24" ACD uses that i use a mac graphics card in pc to get it working on windows i think youll need something similar to get it on the imac display..

You just need a mini DP to DP cable, as long as you require.

Plug it in and enable the monitor on your PC.

It even tells you somewhere on the apple site if you dig through it.

From the Apple website Tech Specs;

... 27-inch models also support input from external DisplayPort sources ...

This seems to be a very general statement to make, and since there shouldn't be anything unusual about the DisplayPort on the PC GFX card, or the iMac, I can't see why the full 2560x1440 wouldn't be supported?

Its a not very clear as to how the input works, it might work with just a cable using a display port output on your PC however I was told (by a apple sales person) for other DVI/HDMI sources you need a special adapter which apple don't make or sell to work and you only get 720p. I have just bought an adapter to plug a bluray player in which looks nice even at 720p, its a shame there is no 1080p support at the moment.

As I have already said, as you have a display port on your graphcis card you only need a displayport to minidisplay port cable. Like this one. I can't link to one as it would be an OcUK competitor. CMD + F2 to switch the display.

You will get the full resolution. If you wan't proof, check this thread out at the apple forums:

Connecting a games console (or a pc without a display port out) is a different kettle of fish, however.

Jon, do you reckon there would be any way using multiple adapters to get a 1080p hdmi signal to a display port to be displayed at full res? I liked the idea of the display input on imacs as I thought it would be good for hooking a ps3 or bluray player up, however to only be able to use 720p on a 27" imac is a bit disapointing.

Not as far as I am aware. Don't know much about it apart from it's something to do with the signal. I have my 360 plugged into the TV, anyway. It's just nice to use the iMac for my PC when I need it.

Holy thread revival batman

Need to know if this actually worked or not before flashing the cash on a cable which may be absolutely useless to me.

I done it with a 5850 and a 5870 it does not work with them, the only cards that work out of the box are 4890/5770/5970/6850/6870 which is what im using now
