So... i dont really have any friends, bar a couple of people i dont see very often. Would a tool like this still be useful for me? even though i have no one to link to?

Yes, many recruiters use it to hunt for staff. You can build it up as you go.

I use it, but it's really just another place to keep my CV.

Some industries use it more than others and I've found I get a lot more calls resulting from Linkedin now I work for a law firm than when I used to work for a media company.

Unfortunately I find that a lot of agents call me at my desk phone because I don't list my mobile on Linkedin; do they think we get our own offices rather than cubicles?

I've noticed a lot of agency recruiters are on there now... if you're IT job hunting, it might be worth checking out the credentials of the agency contact.

I doubt I would ever put my own details or CV (as a job hunter) on there though.

What number do you expect them to call you on? If someone calls on your work number - take their number and call them back, simples.

I expect them to call me on my mobile since it's on my profile (now) and on my CV. It's right at the top, you can't miss it. Or they can send me an email.

Instead they see who I'm working for, call directory enquiries and then come though the switchboard only for me to tell them that it's not convenient to talk about my work situation and new contracts because I'm in an office full of people.

I provide them with my contact details, but because they are retards they go the long way round.

If your mobile number is on your profile then only the dimmest or laziest recruiter would not call it. Most people don't have personal contact details on their public profile though.

Dimmest covers many of them and laziest tend to cover most of the ones I've experianced.

I get regular calls and emails about roles that aren't even close to my experiance or what I say I'm looking for.

For instance, my profiles on Monster, CW360, Jobsite and Jobserve all say that I'm only interested in working within the M25 and yet about half the calls I get are about roles in Scotland or Bristol, or some other such place which blatently isn't within the M25.

Why waste my time and their own?

Sorry, but at the moment they are my pet hate, since my current agency is particularly inept.

No, I must admit, not there, but my CV and contact details are available from a number of locations and I've not done an analysis on who gets it from where.

I thought it was a good site for recruitment agencies or companies to search through rather than going into places like Reed, JobServe, etc.

All I get is emails once a week from people saying they have a programming job in Bangladesh and want 200 people with telephone experience :rolleyes:

you mean a recruiter spammed you on it

seems to happen a lot, I've not bothered with it but a few colleagues have profiles on there and basically get lots of recruiters chasing them over any job that is somewhat related to what our company does

So are traffic wardens and the blokes in India who keeps wanting to sell me a new mobile phone, but I've got no love for them either.

Recruiters are a necessary evil I'm afraid and unfortunately most of them follow the scatter gun approach of ringing / emailing as many people as possible who might vaguely be interested instead of actually targetting those who might be the best candidates, thus wasting my time and theirs. E.g. I did some SOX work about 5 years ago, for three months and now I have people askingme if I'd be interested in a role as a senior compliance officer at a major banks - I'm not even close to being qualified.

The other thing they do which I dislike intensely is post fake ads in order to get their CV numbers up; now I know they do this and so i no-longer apply for roles I see on jobsite and the like, but in this climate there are people out there applying for hundreds of jubs each month that simply do not exist and that's just soul destroying.
