Ok, yet another piece of advice needed!

My itunes was originally located on my desktop PC and my ipad and iphone linked to my itunes account on that machine. However i am having extreme problems with that computer and it currently will not boot up.

Now in the meantime i have bought a laptop and have a fresh itunes download on it which links to my music library on an external hard disk but thats not a problem.

I dont have music on the ipad and i would like to pair it with the laptop. I was going to do it anyway but now that the desktop is playing up its a more pressing issue.

I have lots of apps that were downloaded via the ipad itself which were backed up to the desktop computer and some that havent been backed up to anything and are just on the ipad itself.

If i plug the ipad into the laptop what is the implications for the content on the ipad? Will it be wiped? Will it back up the apps to the laptop? Basically im looking for a clear picture of the pros and cons before i do it and make a blunder? Obviously the actually account itself is the same and i guess technically i can redownload stuff but i want to have the minimum of fuss.

As always any advice is appreciated.

I don't know about what will happen when you plug it in (I think it will wipe it since it was linked with desktop computer) but you can use iTunes on the laptop to download all the apps you have tied to your iTunes account again. Just find the app in the app store and click buy/purchase and it will download it for free.

Or so I believe. :p

Yeah thats petty much what i feared!

I have a lot of apps on the ipad and the thought of having to find them all again and physically download them again doesnt really appeal much!

This is the same situation I'm in with my iPhone and iPad. I had to reinstall windows due to an issue and of course all my apps on my pc and my playlists are now gone and if I sync them now, it'll wipe it all and I'll have to start again which I REALLY don't want to do since some of my playlists are huge and I have 80 apps between the 2 devices.

Sorry I don't have any advice! Just want to say I'm watching this thread carefully for a solution!

I suspect there isnt a real solution tbh or you would just be able to hook your device up to any computer and swap apps and music back and forwards.

At the same time its a huge PITA to have to reinstall everything and i dont think i'll be doing it untill it becomes essential!

Can't you just transfer your iTunes library from the PC to the external hard drive.

Then when you launch iTunes on the laptop, link it to the existing library.

Your apps and stuff should then be found.

Very, very simple, infact I'm surprised no-one has pointed this out yet.

Plug your iPad in. Select "no" or whatever the option would be for it NOT to sync. Go to File (on the top menu) then select "Transfer purchases from iPad/this device" and hey presto, all your apps on your iPad are now on your laptop iTunes.

Hope this helps.

No because the problem i have is the fact that the original PC isnt working!
