Hi All can anyone tell me if Linksys routers are any good ? i,ve heard mixed reviews about them ,are they better than Netgear or speedtouch ?

I have a WAG354G which I got after a friend recommended it. About once a month it wants a lay in, in the morning and will refuse to work. Simple solution is to plug in my spare router and try the Linksys in a couple of hours.

My WAG354G freezes up every couple of weeks and is easily solved by a quick reboot. Also happened with my old netgear, and a friends belkin and 3com :)

Nice kit, I'd recommend one.

Yeah, I definately recommend the Linksys WAG354G as well. Mine doesnt seem to freeze up, well not so far anyway!

yeah ive got a linksy befsr41 (yes very old :p) never had any problems with it ever since ive had this, had it a few years now. linksy are very good

i have the linksys wrt300n draft N mimo router couples to a linksys adslmue2 adsl2 modem.

this setup works a treat and has been rock solid stable 24/7 for over a year now. i can highly recomend linksys kit. also the fact its made by cisco who are the best producer of business grade notworki kit fills me with confidence that their home kit will be great. :D

the reason they (have a lay in) is the isp rather than the router
every so often your isp will reset and you will loose your internet and to get it back your router will need a reboot.

I use a WRT54GS only time it's had a reboot is when we had a power cut last weekend. No problems here WiFi or wired.

I was going to make a new thread, but as this one is here..

Is there WAG200G any good? :)

Web interface is quick and easy to navigate etc etc? I like my speedtouch, but the web interface is awkward as hell, so many clicks to not get very far at all.

Whats so good about this firmware? Out of interest? :)

Its just one I like, alota tweaks in there to play with output rangers in wireless. + has many things you cant get to on the stock ones.

There are a few others DD-WRT , HyperWRT. can ry them too if want.

But remember use at own risk, upping power output can kill ya router, and they get hotter too :).

Ugh, no. Other than the sticker on the side, Linksys and Cisco kit are completely unrelated.

My WRT's been alright and as suggested the third party firmware is good.
The ADSL routers aren't generally as good, and AFAIK most of the third party firmware won't run on them.

eh! afaik linksys is a subsidary of Cisco

Been using my WRT54G with HyperWRT Thibor for years now. Good stuff!

Just because the company is owned by Cisco does not mean that the hardware has anything to do with Cisco what so ever. It is designed by different people and made in different factories.

do you have any evidence to back this up? that's like saying Skoda don't use Volkswagen parts and Volkswagen don't use Audi parts and they are all made by different "factories" and designed by different people. Or Pace, Thorn EMI, Ferguson, Grundig don't share the same internals in their electrical equipment ;) you see where i'm coming from here ?

Obviously a PARENT company will take an active view in one of it's subsidaries, if it didn't then it's not exactly good business.

And just to put the record straight!

"In June 2003, Cisco Systems, Inc., the world leader in networking for the Internet, acquired The Linksys Group, a then privately held company.
Cisco's goal was to enter into the home networking market. Linksys' goal was to partner with a company that would assist it in driving innovative products into the consumer market. With Cisco's networking expertise and Linksys' user-friendly features, consumer and small business users can now build high quality networks designed for their specific networking environments.

According to Charles Giancarlo, President of Cisco/Linksys, "This acquisition supports our vision to drive innovations into the consumer market and create next-generation home networking solutions. The unique combination of Cisco's networking innovations and Linksys' consumer leadership will enable consumers to benefit from exciting new capabilities and enjoy an easy and reliable home networking experience."

Operating as a division of Cisco, Linksys products continue to sell under the Linksys brand through its existing retail, distributor and e-commerce channels. In addition, Linksys now has access to Cisco's sales infrastructure to address international markets and the service provider channel."
