Hi all,

I have a linksys AG041 modem router that I have used for ages and its been brilliant since day one. It is still the original firmware as I haven't seen any reason to update it so far.

However, up until just after Xmas I could connect absolutely fine to my works VPN (Cisco Software, IPSec) but now it will not work unless I switch the firewall protection off in the router config. Which obviously isn't ideal!

Can anyone shed any light on why this has started happening? The VPN software hasn't changed or been updated by work so it can't be a config change?

I looked in my router config and it says IPSec and VPN passthrough enabled as it always has been. So thats not it...

I'm confused?

Hmm thats strange. You havent accidentally changed the ports at your end, or maybe work have changed them at their end. In which case your firewall rule may not be allowing access to the relevant port. Thats all I can think of

I don't think so....like I said! I have not changed anything on my router since it was last working. I suppose I could ask work if they have changed ports or something. But thats what I though VPN/IPSec passthrough would enable?

Very strange indeed. I will speak to the techys tomorrow at work and see what I can find out!

It might be worth making sure the firmware is at its latest (stable) version, as well as resetting the router to defaults and setting it up again.

Erm...I cannot seem to find the firmware anywhere?!?! I am searching for Linksys AG041..which I now is obsolete but surely there must be a firmware somewhere? Any clues chaps?

EDIT: I have tried resetting to factory defaults and still has no effect. I am starting to think that maybe something has changed in the VPN setup. Firmware update wouldn't go a miss anyway I suppose!
