Hi there,

Anyone got one of these? I picked one up today, my old router has had it.

What's the craic with the custom firmwares for it? Can anyone recommend one for gaming?

cheers

I've used about a dozen of these so far. They're absolutely great, particularly the earlier versions. What version do you have? It's written on the bottom.

The best firmware in my experience is DDWRT. It enables a great deal of control and is quite stable.

The latest one, SP2. Look over the features and decide what you want from the various versions. I use the Mini version since it's a little lighter-weight and I wouldn't use the added features anyway.

I've got one. With DDWRT and the connection settings tweaked, it's the best, most reliable, easiest to configure rouuter I ever have had. Thorughly recommended.

I use tomato on ours I may give DD-WRT a go tomorrow as ive got the day off and an empty house so I can sit n mess about without annoying anyone

I use DD-WRT on mine and it's completely stable. I only installed it because of the connection issue with µTorrent, otherwise the stock firmware works perfectly fine and is completely stable. I rarely use any of the advanced features on the DD-WRT, but it does have loads of stuff on it.

That said I do have some problems with the QoS feature on the DD-WRT firmware. Sometimes when I change the qos settings it seems to lock up the router completely, forcing a hard reset (which returns all settings to default). I don't know if this is a common problem but it's best to backup your settings (see "administration" section) before you fiddle with the qos page.

i bought a linksys wrt54g and put on v24 dd-wrt, and using it as a wireless repeater bridge to extend my current wireless range

awesome piece of kit

installed tomato mod on mine today

offers everything i could ever want from a router (besides gigabit lan!) also has a blocklist option where i've pasted in tons of 'bad' websites and ip's

might take the one that spybot injects into host file and put that in the block list

hi ppl got a quick question, does this model support a 20 mb connection ,also i belive i can turn off the wireless and use it as a wired connection thnxs for any help.

Yes on both counts.

It'll depend on the firmware you're running, but the option to disable the wireless will be in the Wireless tab (on mine it's Wireless Mode -> Disabled). It's not exactly rocket science...
