Linux + adding different CPU, Memory & GFX Card

Would anyone foresee any problems in me upgrading my CPU and Memory in to my Linux box.

I built a Shuttle SN25P with an AMD64 3700+ chip in it and some spare 2 x 256mb memory. I have 1 x 120gb with the Linux on it and 1 x 120gb unformatted (will be used for XP)

I want to take apart my main rig and put the Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 2.2ghz 4200+ chip in, my 2 x 1gb Geil DDR 400 memory and replace the ATi X1650 with a Nvidia 7900 GTO 512mb VGA

Will Linux crash or can I just plug and play ??

You can indeed just plug and play. Depending on the distro you're using you might have to switch to an SMP kernel but that's easy.

With the graphics card you'll have to get rid of the old drivers and install the new ones.

That should have the "generic" kernel, which is already SMP. No worries there.

Just to confirm, I had a troublesome PC which I took the hard drive out of and put in my PC. Installed Xubuntu onto it and placed in other PC. All I needed to do was go to xorg.conf file and change the generic drivers to the one in the PC. (sorry not very technical!)

Are the cards both PCI-e? Is it that the slot is the wrong size/shape, or is it that it doesn't fit in the case?

It just doesn't fit, I had to take away the cpu exhaust fan and then I still couldn't screw the gfx card in to place. The power/hdd cables were pushing it out too far.

I put back the X1650 and the exhaust fan. I'm not overly bothered as I hardly play games, but if it had of fit I would have technically had the same spec as my PC in a shuttle.

I guess I can't install my copy of XP with licence from my PC to the Shuttle as the mobo is different ?

Depends if the copy of XP is OEM or Retail.

If it is retail you can use it on any computer at one time.

OEM is tied to one motherboard.

Can you take a photograph of this? Is it just that the card is too long for the case? Does the bottom of the card fit into the motherboard's slot?

I tried and I tried, it just wouldn't totally fit. It fits in the PCI-E slot, but only when the cpu exhaust fan cover is removed (I guess I need that to keep my X2 4200+ cool) then I cannot keep the gfx card pushed in straight enough to screw the backing plate screws in. The cables from all the hdd, psu cables, sata cables all run out from the same location, this pushes the gfx card out of place so it's wonky. if ya get what i mean
