HI all,

Spent most of yesterday trying to get a flavour of linux working on my goddamn pc!

Anyone know of a decent distro that has emacs and latex built in (no internet avail)?

cheers

Latex is a little bit specialist I would have thought, could you not download the packages required for it and then just install them onto the machine?

the dvd version of ubuntu has loads of the stuff from the extra repositories included, but I don't know if its available for download or just mail order

i have a EW-7318USg

right ok, got the adapter today butcant get it working yet.

i done a fresh install of ubuntu 8.04, i plug the edimax device in and it comes up in the network list as wlan0, but the box to "configure" is greyed out.

do i need to install drivers or something else, i thought it would work out of the box?

any ideas would be appreciated.

You don't configure it

At the top right on your task bar you should have a network Icon with your wireless network showing up.

Just click on it and a box will come up asking for your Wep key

Thats assuming your router is set up with Wep security?

If its WPA then you have problems

fantastic m8, works a treat!!!

I was just about setting down to another long night hitting brick walls with ndiswrapper!!!!

cant beleive it really is plug and play!
