Hi

Got a quick question:

Any recommendations on the firewalling / routing solutions, Ive had a quick play with pfsense, but would like to know what other options there are out there and their strengths and weaknesses.

Other options include m0n0wall, Smoothwall, IPCop, Shorewall, and ClarkConnect. I couldn't tell you more about the pros and cons of each than their respective Wikipedia articles.

And I encourage people to check out Endian Firewall Community

I have the content filtering on and just love when that thing forbids me to read some nasty story on cnn. Then I know it works. If I remember correctly it is also the only linux firewall distro I have tried that has an outgoing firewall on by default (except ports 80,8080). So if you want to play COD4 on hostname - port you have to disable outgoing firewall or add hostname - port as allowed.

I love the product and run it along with Smoothwall 2 which I also like.

I know I have said this before, so forgive me if I sound like a broken record.

Endian is alright featurewise, but I grew to hate it and moved away to PFSense for a dedicated firewall solution. I find that plain old IPTables is pretty good if you really want fine control over what it going on :)
