I would like to load linux on ps3. Any good or bad points? Which is good one to use for this? i have never used linux before any help would be good thanks.

Cool - sounds like a good idea to me :)

I seem to remember seeing somewhere that there is some hardware restriction, whereby Linux can't access all of the cores within the PS3 or something along those lines.

I think the 1st distribution available was Yellow Dog linux but now there are a few distributions available for it, including all the main players such as Gentoo, Fedora, Debian and Ubuntu. If this is your first foray with Linux then I'd normally suggest Ubuntu as the distro of choice because of the size of the community. However, not sure if there's one distro which the PS3 owners tend to prefer over the others, which may make using that one a better suggestion. If not, go for one of the Ubuntu versions.

In fact, Google just found this site.... http://psubuntu.com which looks promising.

Ubuntu does run rather well on the PS3, but for a first time user, then maybe you should consider Yellow Dog. That way you can keep easily up to date with no modding to the system at all. If you don't mind attempting a little playing around with the system however, it only takes about 15 minutes of playing with ubuntu to get your screen res correct, and a little while to get non-jerky video playback. http://www.psubuntu.com is definitely a good place to look if you're going down that route, everyone there's pretty helpful and there's a myriad of tutorials to get you going!

Just remember NOT to update after you install.
And wireless doesn't work either.. Other than that... it's great.

Oh.. And remember to write down the code to get back to normal boot for your Ps3. You wILL need it.
