its usb. have plugged it in but its not being recognised. works fine on window though.

Apparently it should work fine with 'gspca-modules' installed from synaptic. Found this from a debian forum though and a quick search of synaptic didn't yield any results for Mint.

I assume you are using cheese as the webcam program? And I also assume it's a laptop with a camera button on it?

Basic, but try pressing the webcam button/key combo then starting cheese. I have to do this on my lappy.

EDIT: That gspca module should be installed in the kernel since a few years back.
 
no i have a desktop pc.... will look for cheese now... sorry ive never had a cam before so no idea what to do.

You can download cheese from the software manager in mint. What Mint version are you using by the way?

Actually cheese might be installed by default.
