Ah well. I guess I'll cope with a vestigial XP install on there just for AutoCAD. I'll still try it though, when I get home (I'm about 100 miles from my computer right now!).
I installed Ubuntu once before, and lack of wireless internet made me change back to XP. b43 fwcutter, eh! Guess who's booting back into Linux later. Cheers!
I'm kinda tied to Windows for SolidWorks and CATIA though, like others here. Goddamn Microsoft monopoly.
Sorry about the wireless, it is not Linux's fault. Broadcom is worse than Microsoft, they refused to help with wireless in Linux AT ALL.

Impressed with slim center on brothers laptop, it starts instantly. With Windows XP slim center takes about 1-2 minutes to finish starting the service, after it's logged into windows.
