su is disabled in Ubuntu just like it's disabled in OS X. You can enable it if you feel you need it. YOu can also use a nautilus script that opens windows as root then lets you manipulate files as the superuser.

you can just do "sudo su"

Graphically you can't. What I'm talking about is doing file management activities that would normally have to be done with commands like rm, cp, mv ,etc. graphically as most people are accustomed to doing with Windows.

KDE certainly has a "file manager as root" option in the kde menu (start menu)

would surprise me if Gnome didn't have the same.

I would try slax kill bill. (snip)

Seconded - i had problems with my windows install after upgrading some hardware and i have currently got a Slax liveCD helping me backup all my needed documents off my C partition :)

It's very nice to use and as said ran straight out of the box- no need to setup any network stuff - just ran Kopete and it logged into msn just like that ...

I shall defo keep it and just use it from time to time if i am bored of windows :p
