Well i don't know if anybody saw it, but this morning on the BBC News they had a section (around 8:00AM) about Operating Systems. Namely the upcoming Windows 7 Launch but they showed the differences between that and XP/OSX. During this segment however, Ubuntu was on screen! For all of 3 seconds, and they portrayed it as being for the advanced computer user but it's still getting the news out there. Good on ya :)

I heard a commit about OSX being much cheaper than Win7. Didn't mention that MAC's are much more expensive that a PC :P

Not in the slightest. It's old only because Apple haven't fixed the problem in any way...

OK, so Apple don't offer a £350 laptop - it's because they don't want to. Apple make premium products that are design led and are happy to leave the box shifting to other manufacturers.

Spec a Mac Pro up against a Dell/HP workstation using equivalent parts and the Mac Pro is cheaper every time.

Apple don't make premium products. They make mainstream products and stick a premium price tag on them. They would actually make more money by selling them at a lower price, as they would sell more units.

Wow. You should tell Steve Jobs that. I'm sure he would be greatful for your insight.

Thanks for your input. I don't feel the need to continue this discussion further.

no it wouldn't
unless you can prove that you can't get a equiv spec laptop for less then you are wrong.
macs no longer use anything you can't find in your average laptop. this may have been the case once but now it's all intel based there's no reason for the overpriced elitist snobbery that mac users have.

anyway this is the Linux forum not the mac one.

Mac Pro isn't a laptop. It's a Xeon tower.

What about the excellent case, trackpad and OS? You know, the things you actually interface with, not the chips on the motherboard.

They are premium computers and so what? I don't begrudge someone who's into cars buying a premium (not only about performance) car.

The case i have on mine (i got it for free, don't worry :p ) is quite rubbish. Flimsy plastic and picks up fingerprints like there's no tomorrow. I mean, if that's what you would be doing if there was no tomorrow then you're pretty sad, but it is an inanimate object...

Trackpad is irritating to use. If it ain't broken don't fix it.

The OS is no better than most Linux distro's, but you can do less with it.
