All because dude's name is pronounced as leenoos torvalds and not lay-nus torwald as they kept calling him on CNN few years back over and over again throughout every news service that day.
I have a hard and flat accent myself, and for many, many, many years every time someone from bank or "official details" type of place asked me about my job description and I replied I'm a unix administrator there was that moment of silence on the other end and then inevitable question "what do you mean by Eunuchs Administrator?". For some reason it's one of few words people always hear me say differently than they sound in my head no matter how hard I try. Unix is one word, then there is "films" (my official email contains that word). Simple word you would think. I have no idea what people hear me say, I literally go out of my ways to pronounce it properly and yet for 10 years now I have to resort to adding, "films, as in - movies, motion pictures". And finally there is "lines" (my street name has lines in the name) and I lost the count of times envelopes arrived addressed to "Lions *" instead. They literally must have a note somewhere at the post office - everything addressed to Lions Blah goes to that bloke with square tongue at Lines Blah. I don't know what it is, but it makes me feel really daft good several times a year.
