Linux Pronunciation ?

I pronounce it 'Lin-ux' on account of it not being lino, or anything to do with flooring. On that note, I'm not going to start jumping on anybody who pronounces it differently - where's the freedom in that? :)

I don't care how people pronounce it, I used to pronounce it wrong myself (along with other words and names, which I probably still do pronounce incorrectly), still doesn't make the wrong pronunciation right ;)

Indeed names can be pronounced exactly how you want.

eg:

Shania Twain

Does that mean I drive a

Scan-eye-ah ?

Edited out my rubbish example.

Surely names are only correctly pronounced as intended by the person/people/language who named it. If Linus says it's Lin-ux, then it's Lin-ux. I've always known it to be Lin-ux. Not that i'm a definitive answer to the question.

Exactly, which is why names have different variations on spelling as well (e.g. Shaun and Sean).

The creator of the name determines how it's said and how it's spelt. That is the correct way and shouldn't change regardless of language.
