Hello, can anybody advise me how I can uninstall Linux from my mates laptop without the boot disc? I have checked the MS KB but they say you need the disc and delete the partitions...if I haven't got the disc does anyone know how I can do it manually?

Is it possible to install XP Pro over the top?!?!?!

The XP installer will allow you to delete the partition(s) and overwrite the MBR (it does that whether you want to or not, annoyingly)

Whenever I've come to overwrite linux with windows (every time i've tried to migrate tbh :() It says that the partition table is fooked.

If you google 'gparted' it will come up with a very powerful utility. Boot from the disk you will create and delete every partition you can find. Then create an NTFS one and you're good to go:)

HTH

Still having problems I'm afraid - I got it to boot from the XP CD (the CD drive is external though) but nothing happens. I have tried altering the boot settings in the bios so that it boots from the internal drive but it comes up saying booting from CD and all I have is the flashing cursor and a black screen!!!

Anyone jhave any more ideas?!?!?

you don't "remove" it, you just kill the partitions; then reinstall the windows bootloader onto the MBR.

Or leave grub/lilo on and just remove the entry for linux.
