Hi,

I'm wondering about replacing the windows 2003 OS on my download box to Linux. Just for sometihng different to 'tinker' with. I've never used Linux, but I've heard good things about Ubuntu, I assume this will be appropriate?

First of all, I guess there is NO Linux distro's that support MS remote desktop?
So I'm guessing I need to install some new software to remote desktop to it, since I have no monitor attached most of the time.

And secondly I guess there's plenty of torrent apps that do work on Linux.

Thanks for any help, people of the L,O&O forum! :)

Ubuntu or any major distro will be fine, you can use VNC to control it remotely, Azureus works well on my Fedora desktop.

I guess the hardware is reasonable as it's running Windows 2003, but there are other options for an older/slower machine if you need them (like not running a graphical desktop and using a web-based torrent client).

You might want to look at nomachine or freenx.

Seconded, although I've had tons of issues with freenx and would suggest you use the commercial (But free) nomachine server.
