List of games supporting dual core?

Pretty sure BF2 and WOW arent either, I cant find any supporting evidence to suggest these games run duel core optimisations. Anyone?

Hmm so at the moment its not really worth me going down the dual core route then. Think i'll wait 2 or 3 months and wait for prices to drop and some indication that games are starting to harness the potential.

Thanks for all the input guys.

Zeph.

If you're mainly gaming and already have a A64 or fast P4 then it's not worth jumping on the Dual Core bandwagon just yet.

If on the other hand you want to game and encode at the same time then you need dual core now. ;)

I have yet to see any benchmarks of games with/without dual core patching. eg call of duty 2. As far as I can tell all it has done is resolved the drop in performance issues with dual cores in these games. Anybody got any evidence that dual core has increased performance in any game played today?

Not sure where that extra £100 goes if your not multi tasking your pc.

Check out these benchmarks here:

These compare the FPS results before and after the dual core patches for Quake IV and COD 2 :)

Thanks for the link ajgoodfellow. Interesting reading. So a duel core amd performs better in call of duty 2 with the second core disabled! I'm gonna look out for a comparison between a single core and a duel core chip on the same testbed.

I think I should say I can see the attraction of being able to run more than one major application on a system, ie for gaming, multimedia centre/working as a TV recorder etc. Also that it is not possible to predict when/how/if games will use duel/multicores to a signficant advatage in the future.

Had a quick go myself at quake4 benchmarks:

X2 @ 2750 using my own timedemo, tangiable benefits were seen at lower resolutions (1024x768 and below). However at 1600x1900 (4x AA 8x AF) scores were tied at 106fps, SMP on or off made no difference. This closely follows the results by EB (http://www.elitebastards.com/page.php?pageid=13241)

I then plugged in my Opteron @ 3050 and scored 129fps on the same benchmark. Never mind, at least we can play 3dmark
