Anyone know of any sites that have reliable lists of the available sizes for most/all of the 'decent' tyres out there?

Trying to select some suitable tyres for the wife's MR2 roadster and I'm very much limited by the available sizes. The rear appears to have limited choice generally and the front is too "Shopping trolley like" for many performance tyres to be available. Trying to use tyre shopping sites is a bit hit and miss as most only list what they have in stock or don't include particular brands, plus none of them are geared up for shopping for 2 sizes simultaneously.

Alternatively the sizes are 185/55/15 and 215/45/16 if anyone wants to offer suggestions.

185/55/15 easily becomes 195/50/15, should be able to get a lot in that size

I'm reluctant to start mucking about with non-standard sizes. The roadster owners get a proper bee in their bonnet about maintaining the correct stagger front to rear. Apparently you'll die immediately if you don't maintain correct stagger. They do seem to be accepting of using a 40 profile tyre on the rear to open up the options there though.

They're a funny bunch with regard to tyres which is why I thought I'd get a more neutral opinion here!

** Sorry, just noticed I typed the rear size wrong in the OP and have now corrected it. **

With my car I've bought from Blackcircles and it knows and shows 2 different tyre sizes. Have you checked there?

The issue is more that I can't find a site that will only list the tyres that are available in both sizes. I can find a list of tyres in one size, identify a tyre that looks like it might be worth considering only to find that it's not made in the other size. Unfortunately there don't appear to be many tyres made in both sizes.

Ahh I see. Like the guy above me says, have you checked the forums?

if you put the numbers into http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

there is as good as no difference in the two sizes

Currently running mine with 195/45/15 on fronts and 225/50/16 on the back. Far cheaper than the original sizes, and keeps the stagger ratio.

Just be aware that your speedo will be off by a bit if you change the overall radius of your wheels. With these sizes, my speedo actually shows the correct speed instead of being slightly out.

My Corsa had 185/55/15 tyres, and as you say, they are difficult to find and expensive. I put a set of Toyo T1-r's on in 195/50/15, and precisely nothing happened. That 10mm width difference will vary more from one brand to the next! The lower profile means the rolling radii are near as dammit identical too.

Another good site for size calculation

That is absolutely true. The MR2 board can be as precious as they like about OE sizes but move to a different brand of the same size and you can be moving away from the OE size all together
