I've found a few older posts about these but wondered if there are any more up to date experiences.

I'm looking for a jump pack for work, to start the occasional dead car. We have a chunky Snap On charger with start facility, but it doesn't help if the car's at the other end of the car park, so portability is important.

Being used to the huge lead/acid ones that have been in the trade for ever I'm a bit sceptical about the grunt offered by the smaller lithium one, so hoped someone could put my mind at ease.

Noco seem to be well thought of, and I'm thinking specifically about the GB70, 2000A model, which can be had for ~£170 trade.

Cheers.

GB70 is a good buy. We have one at work. Will start up anything it's pretty impressive. Even the other day on an older 3.0 Toyota van that took a few cranks to fire it kept putting out. Noco have a good reputation you can't really go wrong with them.

Noco seem pretty decent from my experience (I've a couple of their devices for charging/conditioning batteries). I've been using a generic name jump starter pack I got off Amazon though which surprising so far seems to do the job - I've heard from other people with similar devices of them failing to start even small engines or catching fire, etc.

Noco are a pretty good brand, but I guess it depends how much you plan to use it for the price.

I bought a lower rep brand on Amazon a few years back. I've started a car with it quite a number of times, can easily do a few on a single charge. But was about quarter of the price of the noco ones.

Do you have to use the boost facility for it to work? I’ve got one off Amazon but luckily never had to use it, but I think I read someone used the boost facility and kill some of the electronics on their car

I had a (relatively) cheapy one from one of the random brands you find on the rainforest a few years back but it died on me after using it a few times. Hopefully a more modern one from a reputable brand will last a lot longer!

Having got it home and read the destructions there's no extra "boost facility" on this unit.

There is however a manual override button, which disables the in-built safety circuitry if the car battery is too flat for it to detect voltage, polarity etc. I guess if it was connected incorrectly, or to the wrong type of battery and this facility was used, there'd be chance of damage. Hence plenty of warnings in the manual.
