Littering while driving = Points

That's what the thread was about...

Fag ends are a danger for bikers without a doubt, and I guess if you are well cranked over when you hit the remains of someones fish 'n' chips it could get pretty messy. However, I think the point Merlin is making is there are numerous other hazards that are far more dangerous than the odd bit of litter. e.g. how many bikers have come a cropper due to diesel, mud/slurry, wildflife, potholes etc compared to litter. Completely eliminating litter would not significantly improve the safety of roads for bikers.

But it would help. My beef with people chucking stuff out of cars isn't solely because I'm a biker, either. It's because it makes this country look like a ****hole. The only reason I mentioned Merlin was because he seemed to think 'litter doesn't affect my safety so I couldn't give a ****', and I'm not the only one that noticed it.

Also, allowing one thing because it's not the only thing that's dangerous isn't brilliant logic, is it? Can I set fires in the road? I mean, there's already potholes, so we might as well have some fires, right? Bit of fire?

You keep presuming to know my point, and getting it wrong.

My point is simply that it's a question of priority, identifying real dangers and dealing with them in a measured way. I do not feel that the odd bit of litter presents a priority 1 risk to bikers, there's a dozen things further up the list of priorities.

If litter was/is such a clear and present danger then where's the capaigns from thousands of bikers? Where's the websites, where's the petitions to resolve this massive problem?

There's nothing, and that's because the real threat lies with other hazards, like the council over-gritting the roads, and as DB has said - diesel/mud etc.

Notice that Keep Britain Tidy don't mention in their reasoning that their proposal would save bikers arses.....the driving force here is keeping Britain tidy yet somehow ITT it's all about saving bikers from death by milk carton.

Really, bikers are the biggest bunch of girly whingers. If the roads are that dangerous then get a frigging bus pass.

How many people here noticed a dangerous item of litter in the road on their way to work?

I never said it should be allowed, I detest littering and I would be delighted to see the perpetrators punished. I just think that bike hazards is not a particularly strong argument in this case.

Someone threw something out their car yesterday, but it was on fire. No joke, I was seriously like "WTF"!

There's already a £30 spot fine levied for each piece of litter that you drop here, I don't see why that couldn't be applied to a moving vehicle...

Pet hate = idiots in cars chucking ash and fag butts out of windows, us your ashtrays or dont smoke morons!

This... this really grinds my gears like you wouldn't believe. I've had the damn things bouncing off my car and getting stuck in the grill. People aggravate me so much sometimes...
