Hey guys,

I bought a little Renault Clio Dci 2 years ago, unfortunately it came with a body kit (Front bumper and side skirts) and some 17" alloy wheels. I had to buy it as I needed the excellent MPG, would take the wheels and bodykit off in an instant if I could!

The bodykit is starting to develop a few small scrapes, cracks etc and I would like to sort them out as cheaply as possible.

I have been looking around the net at various bodykit repair kits, are they total crap? Or would they work for a very small job?

Also, I kerbed the front right alloy wheel the other day and would like to sort it out, are there any alternatives to a professional refurb that won't look like total crap?

Thanks for any help!

lol you HAD to buy a bodykitted car that they probably made hundreds of thousands of!

If it's cracking then it's jsut a crap kit that's cracking over time and use. Filler and respray is needed unless you want a bodge job.

And again the same applies. Pay the £50-60 to get it done properly.

BUT asyou say you don't like any of it why bother? I think the damage has been done with regards to the value of your car...

Yeh mate, I only had 1400 to spend and this one was 1350, whereas all the other Dci's were around 1800, so had to buy this one.

I don't care about the value of the car as I am not looking to sell it ever, the reason I want to fix these problems is a body kit looks stupid anyway and even worse with scrapes etc

I'll look into a proper service then, or maybe look for someone with a black clio who wants a bodykit and alloys in exchange for the stock kit and wheels!

Yeh mate, all declared and didn't make much difference to be honest. I can get about 70mpg out of the car as I am a very conservative driver, the thing literally just keeps going.

I think you secretly like the kit and thats why you bought it to begin with, and want to repair it now.

Otherwise it'd be just as cheap to find standard parts to replace the bits that are cracked. Look on ebay. Loads of black clio bumpers.

in that case, you could look to do the repairs yourself of both the alloy and bodykit but it can be hard to get a good colour match and is also harder as we come up to autumn/winter unless you have decent well lit and covered storage. a garage may be covered but is unlikely to give you the lighting you need to get the colour match.

alloy repair ~ £30-£70 depending on if it is a mobile repairer or body shop.

touch ups to the body kit could be £150-£400 as it depends how many of the panels and rest of car will need spraying to get the colour match. you could do all the filling work, sanding and prep yourself to save money with halfords filler etc.

best thing is take your car to the local body shops (smaller ones) and push for a cash price. i have found mobile repairers and the small ding / touch up places to be more expensive than proper body shops where they seem to command a premium which people pay. guessing most people assume a proper body shop = £1000s and the so mobile guy at £500 is good value.

prices vary so much it is difficult to give an estimate but i had a quote recently for ding and fill repairs on 5 panels inc rear bumper, rear off side wheel arch and 3 doors @ £400 (lowest with 1.2k as highest) all in for a pearlescent black

Well seeing as the OP has bailed already, my opinion is now worthless.

Anyway, OP if you do come back and read this, you can probably pick up front and rear bumpers plus skirts from a scrappy for around £100. No worrys about cracking with the added bonus of not looking silly.

probably gone to rinse some bangin tunes through the 6x9s:D:p

joking asside,

this is acutally a sensible suggestion if the OP doesn't want to keep the bodykit,

And could probably recoup most the cash spent by flogging the kit on! Assuming it doesn't shatter into a million pieces taking it off.

Can't see the point in replying as the OP has gone off in a strop like a spoilt school kid.
But I'm bored...
Just pull the hideous bodykit off if it's falling apart.
It wont affect how the damn thing drives if, as you say, you don't care about it's looks.
Replace, if necessary, the trims that are wrecked, with standard part from the scrappy over time as and when you can afford it. After all, you've already stated you aren't getting rid of the car ever..
So put it right and stop trying to do things on the cheap as that's why it's in the **** state it's in now. :p
