Is anyone experiencing these random little red swollen areas, like bites but there's no sign of actual bites or insects? I suspect coming from the garden as it seems to be happening when one of us hangs the washing out.

They are mad itchy and end up quite sore and I recall them happening around this time last year. Any forum super sleuths got ideas on what they are and how best to avoid?

yeah, its that start of mosquito season. most likely culprit. you can't see the bites but they give you red swollen lumps

do you go outside wearing shorts and find that this only happens on exposed legs?

I wear trainer socks so the ankles are exposed and it's only the exposed skin that gets the bites. Sounds like this is unavoidable. :(

No, but something has recently caused a minor flare up of eczema on my kneecaps. Personally I just think it's just due to the weather shifting from cold to being mild.

mosquitos love the uk weather around april - may.

Dunno where you live but around here we had a mild winter, then a rainy april. which is the right moist conditions for mr mosszy to come out in force .

Funny, I've been having dodgy skin issues the past couple of weeks or so. Could be the weather and humidity change?

Watch out for ticks too.

I had to use my ifixit tweezers to take one of my OHs leg last year.

I couldn't believe how tiny some ticks were I had a little while back. The were almost invisible they were do small. We were going over and over my legs looking for tiny little 'flaps'. Mostly on my lower legs.

Could also be fleas. If the garden is frequented by furry friends, they will try to feed on you. The good news is they can't, but they will leave a tiny red dot where they tried.
