I thought I was going crazy last night when I thought a little insect landed on my screen so I wiped it away and thought nothing of it.

Then today my monitor has got this same little line approx 4-5 pixels and it just crawling over my screen. There is another one in the top right just static and it is freaking me out!

Is it a virus? A broken monitor? My lcd is the nec wxg2 20" jobby.

Weird, are you sure it's just not bits of squished bug?

It's this time of year that you have to be careful, as at night when your lights are off bugs love to get in the back of your monitor :(

Surely it's thunderflies that are inside the screen. It's quite common, there's been plenty of thread about this problem before. The heat or light must attract them in and there's nothing to stop them getting in there through the ventilation holes. They usually die in there and get stuck.

I had 5 of the buggers crawling arround my Dell 2405fpw last summer, one died and remains there to this day.

My recommended action would be to turn your lights off in the room, except for a bright table lamp to one side of the monitor, and turn the monitor off. Hopefully the fly will be attracted to the UV from the light and come out on its own.

All is good if they're still moving :p the problem is when they run out of energy and stop

I wish LCD manufacturers would seal their panels correctly

yep one is still moving so I waited till he was offscreen and have powered down the monitor - lets hope he stays off!

The other one is dead as a dodo and is in the top right of the screen. So is there any way of getting it out? Vacuuming or is this a return to manufacturer thing?

air duster for the win!

Today, one of these little ******* got into my new 24" Dell.
He had a little walk around and then hid at the side of the screen. I then went out for a couple of hours and when I returned it had died in the top left side of the screen.

So this evening I've been learning how easy it is to strip down the monitor and remove the corpse.

All clear again now.

Quick question. I've just noticed one crawling around in my month-old iQon 19" WS - bit horrified tbh.

He seems to have ****** off now though, thank god.

But is there a way to stop this happening in the first place? The whole "prevention is better than cure" thing. Is it dangerous to seal the monitor up totally? Or can I put something near it that deters these little sods?

Get one of these..

and then place it somewhere close to your monitor and hopefully it will take care of these bugs! [Can't guarantee that it will though!] You can find them in most sport/camping stores..

Cheers
Tom

Not seen one of these bugs in a monitor before, didn't realise they were so big. I'd be absolutely gutted if one got inside my BenQ after I took so long convincing myself to move away from my trusty old CRT.

Maybe the manufacturers should consider putting a more exposed and alluring light at the back to attract the little blighters away from sneaking inside the front of the screen.

Would be interesting to know what percentage of monitors get affected by this problem and therefore how seriously these companies should be taking it.

Turn the monitor off and shine a light in through the vents, the bug should follow. It worked for me, twice ;)
