Little Tom goes off on one.

He has a lot riding on these movies personally as he is the producer, we probably need more people flipping out a their employees for not following protocols. Every hospital in my local area has an outbreak of covid amongst the staff at present because anecdotally they are applying their standards well with patients but relaxing them amongst themselves in canteen, locker rooms etc. Like all forms of health and safety its much cheaper to avoid the problem than recover it.

Yeah not really getting the negativity here....he specifically says the whole industry is shutting down and people are losing their homes etc with no work. Good on him, 1 person breaching rules can get the whole film shut down (which already happened in Italy). Seems like you just don't like Tom Cruise.

Y Seems like you just don't like Tom Cruise.

Yeah that's definitely the reason . This whole tirade was allegedly sparked by 2 people standing what he considered to be too close together looking at a monitor. Then he goes on to point people out left and right then refers to everyone assembled as "mother *******".

Don't see the problem, if you had large chunks of cash on the line you'd probably also be mildly annoyed at people risking your business.

So instead of holding a meeting about it, it's better to blow a gasket dropping f bombs left and right? Very professional.

nah. not agreeing with anything he is shooting his mouth about. those that agree with him, would you find it ok if your employer started calling you a mother ******?

if he is that concerned about covid protocols why did he shoot parts of the film in a hospital full of covid patients. ground zero if you will.

If my employers or at least a senior manager caught us on plant doing something stupid and potentially dangerous or maybe high commercial risk and called us *insert naughty word here* and said next time you'll be fired. I'd take that over a disciplinary any day. If it was their business that I was risking I'd probably take the flea in the ear as a sign of their commitment. Too much fannying around and not enough action.

That didn't seem to be your initial point?

So are you now saying it would have been fine and about covid if he'd held a meeting?

Maybe they'd had multiple meetings about it and yet it was still being ignored, I doubt this was the first time it had been mentioned.

I've done plenty of jobs were you could have meetings until you were blue in the face and got no where a quick kick up the back side like this and it would be sorted. Depends how sensitive you are I suppose.

That was the meeting, lol you think people working 12 hour running days on set have time for a nice little sit down about it? Speaking to my industry colleagues about it, most are fairly supportive of what he said. From my pov though, on a set like that there's only a few people near monitors.. One is the director and producers who he's unlikely to talk to like that, the others are people with whom I've worked with a lot and much more junior (data management if you will) and if he's screaming at them like that it's a pretty nasty thing to do. The way he was clearly talking to two people specifically. Just my 2p.

But I don't think anyone working on that set would be phased by the shouting or language, it's a different world you know.

And maybe they didn't? Regardless flying off the handle like that just makes him out to be a bit of a tit, and singling people out is like something a teacher would do to try and embarrass people in front of the class.

A quick "lads stop ****ing about" often solves things much quicker and easier.

Like I said it depends on what you're used to I suppose. I wouldn't expect it in my current job, in my old jobs it was the way forward.

Maybe so, seen plenty of opinions one way or the other on twitter.

It sounded perfectly reasonable to me. I don't see what him being of a certain stature ( :D ) has to do with anything. As others have said, he has a lot riding on his shoulders, and his stress levels must be quite high. I know I get irritated by seeing people flouting the guidelines when I have family that are very susceptible to Covid. Imagine multiplying that by a few hundred or thousand and adding jobs into the equation.
If he worked in an office environment it wouldn't be acceptable, but he's not, he's on a set. Different approaches and rules for different environments and the type of people. I imagine if he did that in an office everyone would be wanting time off for PTSD.

That's just how it goes in a number of industries, *especially* when the person blowing a gasket at you is the one whose name will be dragged through the media and be held personally responsible all across the Twitterverse for your **** up. It won't be a Hollywood film that gets an outbreak in the headlines, it'd be 'COVID SPREAD BY TOM CRUISE FILM' or similar.

Can you imagine if this was Marco Pierre White's kitchen, or one of Gordon Ramsay's places? The f-bomb would be the least of your worries.

Avoid movies he's in and dislike the guy but this recording ain't all that shocking..

it's more casual a setting than an office and most likely they are all people who he's been working with for a long time on other films.

If it was a building site and you ****** up badly (covid aside) you'd get raked worse than this example.

I'm fine with Tom's reaction, for the reasons you state.
