LittleBigPlanet - Play, Create and Share.

What's the code provide out of interest? Costumes I guess. Which set?

Nariko, from Heavenly Sword.

All of these characters will be buyable within 2 weeks anyway (if you really want them). I have a free code for a Kratos one, I can see myself buying maybe 1 or 2 novelty ones, not much else. Sony plan to milk this tbh as they have already said there will be 2 types of costumes, normal and premium.

Prices wee not expensive as such, it's just I can understand paying for levels, I cannot understand paying for a character to run around the level in, which does not change the game functionality in anyway.

Image importing coming to LittleBigPlanet by Xmas

Talking at GameCity in Nottingham today, Alex Evans was asked about the lack of image import in LittleBigPlanet.

The news? He confirmed that this was only pulled from the release of the game because of time constraints, and that the image import tool would be released by Christmas.

For those (many) people that were upset to hear that the PlayStation Eye was going to be the only image import option this will indeed be (completely non-religious) music to their ears.

Are we getting "I was there week 1" shirts for the EU? Or have I missed the boat. :(

As the time comes near for all you others to enjoy the wonder that is LittleBigPlanet I thought I would share you some of my thoughts on this game. Like I said in another post I got my copy of LBP sent to me just before the recall from a import site (nothing illegal there) so I've had the game to close on two weeks now. So without any spoilers I will try and do a little mini-review of this game, I will be comparing a few things with the beta is not a spoiler in my book, if you consider it is then stop reading.

Ok First of all the “story” game itself,
Well the first few levels a the same as the beta, basically a tutorial of the games basic play mechanics, one thing to note is that it all seems a bit tighter than the beta, the jumping is better as is the plane switching. The one thing that surprised me is how big some of the levels are, and how much imagination has gone into designing some of the puzzles / hazards in the game. The little mini games you have to unlock are great fun. For example my nephews came around last week (age 6 and 10) and played just one of the mini games for about an hour non-stop trying to outscore each other and just having fun, it was great to watch them laughing so much at such as simple thing. Their mother was there and she couldn’t wait to try it to, its just one of those games that seem to appeal to all people and ages. Carrying on with this the actual “story” mode has various themes with 3-4 levels on each theme, not including the little mini game levels. Levels consist of normal platforming, to racing, to mini boss battles. Towards the end some of the levels are hard in a very non casual gaming type way, I was quite surprised at how ingenious/devious and down right nasty some of the levels are. One word of warning is to understand how to make the physics work for you, not against you, much practice with the jumping physics is required and also make sure you don’t rush when you think its all clear. When you play multiplayer on one machine you have the option to login as another PSN ID but this one will not get any trophies, only player 1.

Collecting stuff
Im not sure how many objects was in the beta, but in the full game I would say its probably at least 8x as much. I have not aced or 100% all levels yet (you get extra stuff for doing so), but I have a huge amount of extra stuff than I had in the beta. It also includes such useful things as cogs and many more wheel types. You will need 2 or sometimes 4 players to 100% all the levels, and in most case they have to be there from the start, in the later levels a good co-op player will be needed. One thing is that the “normal” stickers you will share and only the aced ones and special prizes for coming first will only go to that player ( not 100% sure of this now), if only the aced the level.

Creator
This is basically the same as the beta version, no new tools but its layout a bit differently as far as I can see. You have to go through all the tutorials again, no Japanese one this time though lol, but its required I guess. It’s a shame you can t skip them but a refresh isnt a bad thing to be honest. The main difference is the amount of stuff you will get from the game, there is just so much to play with now, more enemies you can just paste it, more music and sound effect etc, etc. Its just massive what you can do with this game now. One other improvement from the beta is that you can now upload 20 levels instead of 5, im not sure how or if this can be increased at a later time.

“Cool” levels
This has been changed a bit since the beta, the search has improved and now seems to work on PSN ids, keywords, far better than it did in the beta. Now when you play a level not only can you heart it you can also give it a 1-5 star rating so hopefully all the better levels are easier to find. They have also changed the way you add a descriptive word to it the list is far easier to navigate and you can chose not to leave one if you wish.

Other Stuff.
On the actual news part of the game it has a creator of the day type thing or level of the week type thing so media molecule will highlight your work if its good enough so more people will play it etc. The way the friends list works is still the same as the beta and is probably the best PSN integrated game I have played on the PS3. It shows when someone has got a high score on a certain level or if they have played/hearted one of yours etc.

And Finally…
Not many games I have played live up to the hype, sometimes you fell it doesn’t just seem to be as good as you thought, well LBP isnt one of those games. Even with all the hype I was constantly amazed and surprised with the levels, the music is amazing and fits so well with the game, even when I was getting killed it didn’t bother me I was having to much fun! I have not really touched the creator side this time as I want to pretty much get all the items before I start and some of the things you see in the game give you even more great and crazy ideas of what you could do given the time. Not tried much co-op stuff (waiting for you guys), but now the servers seem pretty stable there is only a bit of lag sometimes at level start or ones with 1000s of score bubbles. My only gripe would be you do have to get use to the controls and the plane changing is not perfect, but all in these are such minor issues and ones with a bit of play time you get the hang of. In a year of so many great games I cannot see any game beating this for Game of the Year in my opinion (not that its worth much lol) this is the Mario 64 of this generation and everyone should at least play it. Not that every one will like it, some wont of course but you have to give it media molecule to try something like this in a generation of bald space marines, by the numbers FPS and franchise sports games.

Still not recieved my Nariko code. Getting this sackgirl though is tempting me to buy Heavenly Sword, good bit of marketing there :p

Nice review,i wan,t it even more now,lol.

can i dl them and use on my uk account? :D

very nice review smalls. Makes me have faith in this gem of a game again!

Highly doubt it would work. Normally DLC is region locked to the region of your game. I will still try it when I get my copy though :) But those particular free items will be on all the servers. (Think they are free Halloween items).
