I'm incredibly jealous, wish I had a PS3 right now.
Sounds like a case of 'the novelty' to me, the first 30-40 pages of the GTAIV thread were exactly the same. I'm holding out on opinion till I've played it some more.
Can't believe multiplayer create is out, any eta yet?
The first few in a beta/get the full game always massively over-rate the game in my experience. It's wise to wait for everyone to settle down before reading anyone's opinion. I'm still very jealous though.
So has anyone summed up WHY the game is so good yet? What makes it one of the best ever?
It has Steven Fry in it? Surely that instantly makes it best game EVER EVER EVER.
No, no one as far as i can tell has stated WHAT is good about the game play, just that it is good.

For a start it looks like every single video/screenshot that has ever been released to the pixel!!! How many games can you say that about this generation?

Secondly, when you enter the level editor, the minutes of your life start to slip away slowly (I can imagine they will slip away faster when you can co-op create levels). The amount of hours/days people put in just to create decals in games like Forza 2 mens this will be popular. I am absolutely rubbish at Art/Design stuff, but even I have managed to make a simple rocket powered car and a simple ramp or 2. Also you can import content via Playstation Camera, I have already driven through a level that had a 12 foot Rick Astley telling me I had been Rick Rolled!!!
Thirdly, it is like heaven if you are a platform fan game (or have enjoyed any platform game in like the last 20 years). You could probably replicate most 2d platform games in some way (given enough time and thought).
Fourthly. Very easily accessible, joining multiplayer games is a pleasent experience, and relatively seamless/fast. In most games if someone tries to join midgame, I refuse. In this I don't seem to mind as it is a lot of fun multiplayer.
Ultimately though, only one for platform game fans. Most console folk just seem to want the latest FPS or annual sports refresh title these days, this game won't be for them, I suspect.
Normally it is wise to reserve judgement on a Beta, but this is final game code (in terms of the one player levels and interface etc). All that is missing is certain content for level design and I guess the online will be tweaked (I think this is primarily a server stress test so that can be done from the backend).
