Live car chase through LA

It's contrasting watching a UK police chase vs a US one. The immediate noticeable difference in the UK when the police get out is to charge straight for the driver/passengers. In the US the guns are drawn immediately. I do get that it's done for their own protection as the driver or passenger could armed. It's just very contrasting.
 
Weird one going on now as well - following a van which seems to have its own fan club - people on the side of the road waving when it goes past, 4-5 cars which aren't law enforcement following as well - at one point stopping to give the van driver what looked like food.

Same channel as above.
 
It's odd that live footage of these things are widely available to the public.

Doesn't it/couldn't it encourage some people to do it to be on TV...? Five minutes of fame and all that jazz.

They tend to throw the book at them never mind the dragging them from the car, maybe setting a dog on them and if they are unlucky shooting them probably puts all but the complete nutters off.
