Live close to uni - Move out or not?

i guess some people just dont have anything better to do

anyway definetly move out ! id hate to think how much id of missed by staying at home (could easily of been done)

I think the important thing to remember here is that it's final year.

Like I said, had been a first year even I would have recommended he moved out given the distance he lives from home.

I live at home for Uni and its great, despite what Kreeee thinks (I do love it when people I've never heard of think they know me becuase of what is posted on the internet)

It's just that you can't take a joke, as proven here. ;)

It's private halls. Basically a flat of 6 people, each with their own room and ensuite but a shared kitchen and living area.

Alongside however many others - if it was 1st or 2nd year move, but final year (so I'm lead to believe as I dropped out!) is so much work its silly. I moved out for 1st and 2nd years and had a blast. Prob too much of one, but hey ho. Home to uni was 11 miles!!

Move out mate, its the whole fun of it. :)

I still think half the people replying to this thread are under the assumption he's about to start Uni and not about to finish it. That or they all studied Film Studies and were still able to 24/7 party in their final year :p

Lived out in my first year. Have lived at home for the past 2 years now and don't mind the long commute simply because I've had the "living out experience" and don't see the point spending thousands of pounds just to have freedom. I actually prefer living at home now because I study more than I did living out.

My advice is - if you plan on getting a graduate job straight away and have pretty high hopes (and the average wage for a graduate job related to your degree is good) then just wait til you graduate and get a nice flat/apartment then. If you have other plans, or aren't confident you'll get that job straight away, then live on-campus for your last year. After all, you'll need as much time as possible to study and socialise because you'll miss uni when you're done. (This is all assuming money is an issue. If you're rich, then obviously move out. :p)

I'd highly recommend moving out, sure it may work out more expensive but these are probably the best years of your life with so much freedom - move out! Sure I love visiting home but it's never quite the same afterwards.

It being your final year makes it more tricky because it's so work intensive. If you can afford it, I definately would go for it, but if it's really a stretch perhaps not.

Not quite, I am well aware that in the original post it states that Kemik is going into his final year. However I did law and my partying remained basically unchanged over the four years of my course, happily my grades went up marginally in my final year, not that I was particularly bothered about doing anything in the law field but it is better to walk away with a semi-decent degree grade than not I think, for personal satisfaction if nothing else.

Although perhaps I should say I wouldn't recommend my way of doing things to everyone, it certainly isn't the easiest way to do it.

If it is anything like the shared student accomodation here that are in big blocks then the quality of the actual flats probably isn't that great but it looks reasonably decent on first inspection. If you can I'd try talking to people who live there currently to find out what is/isn't good about it before you move in.

Move out!

Those who think it's better to stay at home only say that because they never had the experience themselves. Those who have done both and still recommend living at home didn't do it right! It's that simple.

havent read the whole thread but...

MOVE OUT!

Im in my 3rd year now, lived away from home for every year, and im dreading going back home when I finish, living away from home is SO much better then at home. When i finish im gona look for a job asap so i can move out again ASAP!

MOVE OUT MOVE OUT MOVE OUT!

Third year really isn't the time to start messing about and changing the way you do things. I've lived away from home all through my degree but I would suggest you stay at home now if you've been living at home for the past two years.

Do you know the other 5 people?

I know 3 of them. The other two are people my friends stayed with in halls in the first year.

The accommedation is pretty good. I've spent a fair amount of time in my mates flat and he lives there.

Just to remind a few people here, even if I do move out I won't be party party party!!!!! because I'm not stupid. I've managed the first two years of university with a part time job (two or three shifts a week) and seen as I'm quitting the job before the end of April I wouldn't be surprised if I still had more free time when I move out than I do now. From the looks of things I'll be spending a LOT of time studying because there's nothing to do when you're living away from home during the day (when not at lectures).

The thing is I've got an internship this summer with a big four accounting company. If I do well I'll be recruited for a graduate position after my third year and train to become a certified accountant. Apparently that's more work than a degree and I definitely will be living at home when I graduate for at least the first year to settle in my new job.

Including next years loan I'll have about £7.5k in savings.

Prepare to be amazed then. With an internet connection, a TV, a games console, a pub and some mates (or any combination of the above) it is very very easy to find excuses not to study or perhaps that was just me. :)

Good on the accomodation though.
