After toying with the demo all day I finally got around to getting my hands on this little beauty, and a beauty it really is. Before this I was playing the GTR2 demo and although that was very good it's still slightly 'arcady' in my opinion. In LFS at least the car's handle like the real car's would (i imagine). It really is great fun. :)

One question though; from what I understand at the moment is that the current public version is version U? When V comes out is that a free upgrade or do you have to pay for it?

They're just patches, so when V does come out, you'll just need to install the patch.

The only time you'll need to pay for anything is when Live for Speed S3 eventually comes out.

Thanks Davey, i've just posted the same question on the LFS forums, so if you read it on there, ignore it :).

What will S3 bring? Do you have any links?

Not a clue, probably new tracks, new cars, better graphics, improved car dynamics models etc, maybe new sound? Dunno, total guesses, I really need to start playing this again, need to practice driving the McGill Formula SAE car :p

Scawan has said that while S2 brought dynamic cars (tyre wear, fuel use, damage), S3 will bring dynamic environments (weather, variable grip on the track, daylight/night racing, etc). There is also a supposed major upgrade to the graphics engine aswell.

But it's a good while before it's release; I wouldn't even worry about it at the moment.

Am I right in saying we're not actually on the full S2 release yet? So S3 will be a while away if we need the S2 full release to come first.

Indeed. S2 is still Alpha if I remember correctly. (Could now be beta, which would make a little more sense, but it's definitely not final)

Just want to say...

This game rocks. I agree with the OP... it's the only racing game I've ever played where I actually feel properly connected with the car's handling. It's a game that really lets you concentrate and improve your racing lap by lap - unlike most racing games where you just idly keep going round and round without seemingly any improvement because of the lack of "feel" from the steering.

LFS is a fantastic game, but I don't play it anymore purely due to the engine sounds....or lack thereof. Given that the rest of the game (no, simulation) is so top notch - awesome physics, very good gfx etc., it's a shame that the engine noise is just a ocmputer generated buzzing noise.

:(

Hoping they will sort this for S3.

Having just installed the U32 patch, the engine note is a little better, but as you say, in comparison to the likes of the GT/GTR series, it has a long way to go.

Was going to say, for those wanting to stay most up to date, have a gander at the test patches: link

They are NOT touted as stable, there are test patches, but I have never had to uninstall one due to issues.

And elk, I know you're new to all this, but it's Scawen.

:p

Ah any idea when the next patch is out for LFS then? Has Scawan (:p) dropped any hints about how the test patches are going?

Did you look at that link? :P That's about the latest info that gets released. Last version U32 came out at the weekend. S3 is miles away so no point asking questions about that just yet. S2 full is hopefully next year, the hundreds of little bits that make up S2 final appear as mini patches for the things that don't affect the physics and therefore World Records/ Replays etc.

It's one of those things, don't ask as there isn't a date. If there was a "date" it wouldn't hold when it came to it. Enjoy it as it is now :)

Sounds have been updated in the latest test patch. Still buzzy, but more going on. I personally prefer the method that LFS has for sounds, not as initally immersive as say GTR, but useful.

I wasn't asking about the S3 release. I was wondering if Scawen had said anything in the test patches threads about the next S2 release.

Patch V shortly then I believe the next patch is going to be incompatible, i.e. physics changes that render all existing hotlaps and WRs invalid.

We are going public version V in a few days so this needs a good testing. In the next couple of days I'll put some things up to test the auto update system.
