Live for speed question.

downloaded it today! and as much fun as i think i could have! the controls are horrid! no config for a joypad

Keyboard joystick wheel...great but I like to use a joypad and I cant get on with using keyboard or keyboard and mouse on this game.

Is there way to get me Logitech rumblepad going properly, as i like to use a stick for steering and buttons for accelerate/brake not one stick for everything.

wheel and joypad are essnetially the same for control setup... but LFS with a joypad just doesn't work. Mouse is better when you get used to it.

I used to use a joypad with some success, but I used the left stick to turn and the right stick for accelerate/brake, with change up/down on the finger buttons at the front (shoulder buttons?).

You will be able to get it set up how you want, in the control setup screen select wheel/joystick, then theres a choice for the throttle/brake axis - split, combined or buttons.

I think you will suffer in the higher powered cars though due to having digital controls rather than analogue.

Hi just to follow on...

Managed to get the steering and accel/brake onto both sticks! but still cant get the accel/brake onto the buttons....is this possible?

cheers

pretty sure it's possible. It worked when I set it up for the controller... I don't actually have LFS installed since I don't play it - so I couldn't actually tell you how.
It's a good game, but online racing has its good and its bad points. The good point being that you race against real people, and the bad point being that you race against real people

depends on the server, most are understanding if you are bad just as long as you dont hang about in their way if the blue flag starts waving

it's why i keep "L" on my license plate...should really mod the skin and put some driving school skin on hehe

i prefer analogu acceleration but shouldnt there be a set of 3 buttons to determine accel/brake axis, combined, sep, and buttons

If you've only tried the demo servers, you will most likely have come across a fair few wreckers and plain idiots. There is a warning about this when you join a demo server, but I think most just click past it.

well if anyone can tell me how to confige a joypad to use the buttons it would be great.

Where it says 'Throttle/Brake Axes' on this pic, you should set it to buttons.

yes I did read that and I understand that it's going to be an issue with any demo... but I found myself banned from a server after somebody else crashed into the back of me while I was slowing down for the first corner. That person then calls a voteban on me and everyone else blindly agrees. :s
It just puts me off racing online in general, because there will undoubtedly be people who have brought the game and take the same attitude. Same thing used to happen in pgr2 the couple of times I played it online.

:)

(this is the good thing about arcade game like flatout 2 though - there's no blame involved because it's meant to be done)

Thats is exactly what I would expect from a bad demo server with no admin present.

If you stick to servers whose name gives the impression that it is a team server you will probably find 1 or 2 in there have admin rights, and the racing is clean and fair. Failing that you can always host your own and boot anyone you don't like the look of :)

Do you own the game?

yeah you can only do the first 3 cars (XFG, XRG and XRT) driving lessons in demo, you have to unlock S2 (buy it) to get more.

LFS is a fantastic game, but I don't play it anymore purely due to the engine sounds....or lack thereof. Given that the rest of the game (no, simulation) is so top notch - awesome physics, very good gfx etc., it's a shame that the engine noise is just a ocmputer generated buzzing noise.

:(

Hoping they will sort this for S3.

My good man, what you need is this! http://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?t=12863&highlight=carsound+remixer

Breathes a whole new lease of life into the cars, and with the LFS community being what it is I expect these custom sounds to get better and better.
