Live for Speed

I own a G25 now, as well as a DFP, and the G25 completely blows the DFP away. Apart from the obvious increase in build quality, steel and leather etc, there are several factors which make it much better.

Firstly there are two force feedback motors instead of one. This stops the issue where one motor has to fight with itself as it it spins back and forth. The two motors work against and with each other to create much more precise and subtle FF effects.

Then there is a backlash system in the wheel, which means there is absolutely no slack or wobble on the wheel like there is on the DFP. It's solid and doesn't have that tiny clunk around the centre. There is still a slight grinding sensation from within the wheel, but it is certainly smoother.

Thirdly the wheel polls data through the USB at 4 times the speed that the DFP (or any previous Logi wheel) does. At first I didn't think this was noticable, and for the most part when you're totally in control, it isn't. But while playing Netkar Pro, before when I would occasionally lose the back end, I'd counter-steer, then hope to stay pointing in the right direction. Often the car would swing to the other direction as I'd over compensated. I always assumed that this was me and my poor driving. However, since having the G25, I've not lost control once. As soon as the back end steps out, corrective steering fixes the problem with just a slight slide. This obviously shows that the increased resolution of the wheel data / positioning makes a substantial difference.

My only complaint is the stupid lack of buttons. Just two! I do wonder what happened at the development meeting the morning that decision was made.

I'm still planning to get a steering wheel, but right now I'm using the mouse. I find I can't use any of the higher-powered RWD cars though, mainly because its on-off power so keeping the back end in check can be a pain.

Still fun though :)

I like to use a pad myself, i like the stick for steering and buttons for go/stop. Tried using the other stick for go/stop but i just cant do it feels alien and i have much more control with tapping a button when needed
