Live Mixes

Yeah, but the copyright is still going to be owned by the artist and it will have only been licensed to the company who recorded the event.

Youtube have to take down copyrighted material when they're asked to do so... just because it's still on there doesn't mean it's not infringing on copyright - just that they've not received a take-down notice yet.

I have, however, seen some of the music publishers uploading stuff to Youtube, so I guess in these cases they're happy with Youtube publishing them.

Surely uploading event footage/mixes is a good thing. I went to sensation this year and wouldnt have gone had I not seen how good 2006 sensation black and others were.

I also wouldnt bother going to half the events i have been too had i not listened to mixes beforehand

Yep, I agree with you... it gets them free publicity. Doesn't mean that the work is suddenly copyright free though.

You could say the same about radio stations playing the latest Britney or Sugarbabes records - it's all good because it's publicity for the artists and their record companies. Doesn't mean that the radio stations don't have to pay a royalty to that artist each time they're spinning one of their records though (although the way PRS works, it's paid as a lump sum and is shared amongst artists, rather than hundreds of thousands of small payments).

Put yourself in the shoes of an artist... you've worked hard (or not so hard in the case of some artists) to produce something that people want to listen to. You'd not feel happy that the rights assigned to your work suddenly disappeared because some untalented person uploaded your songs or your concert to Youtube. You'd want to keep hold of those rights so that you can make a DVD of it and sell it on the High Street. You might license it to a particular company, but you'd be mad to not want to retain the copyright.

As Gareth has mentioned, the PRS and PPL to some extent wouldn't be too happy if you did this. Look on Wiki and OneMusic for lots more info about royalties and licencing. :)

Did you go to black or white? I'd go to black for 2 reasons.

"Dave" and "Clarke"

End.

I post on many music forums for raves and everything and copywrite has never been an issue with mixes or videos.

I really dont understand why this forum has a thing against mixes? - Say if someone on here did a mix and then gave it to others to download.

I wonder if Overclockers North Korea has permission from the copyright holders of the avatar pictures to use them on this forum?

How would i know i like a certain artist if i have never heard their music?
e.g.

"DJ XYZ is playing at xxxxx tonight"

"Who the hell is DJ XYZ?"

"Don't know, never heard them before"

"Lets go to xxxxxxx and listen to someone else them"

This is the reason lesser DJs (and also greater ones) upload live mixes on forums or on their websites. Don't know if anyone has heard of Proteus, but he's a massive hard dance dj and has about 10 mixes on his site.

Would it be copyright to post them on here?

i see your points and i do think we should be allowed to post mixes

but i dont fully agree on the not going somewhere unless ive heard the DJ before though , some of the best nights ive had have been at undegroundy nights where weve had to ask who the DJ was

I agree, when i first started listening to dance again id never heard of some of the DJs until I arrived and started thinking, yes, im definately going to see 'XYZ' again

It'd still be nice to post mixes on places like this and other forums when more unknown DJs are trying to promote their work to get people to their nights.
This is definately the case for a couple of new hardstyle DJs in Leeds. A couple were posted on dontstayin website and they were excellent.

Its just a pity they couldnt be shared around (which he agreed for me to do) to try and get people to go to one of his nights
