Something that has really started to get to me over the last year or so. We get hugely popular titles such as halo, gears of war etc which are great games but the MP ( connection wise ) suck! These games would be so fun to play if it wasnt the fact every game your running off of someone elses connection in a country hundreads if not thousands of miles away from your own. It makes for a poor gaming experience to be hit with 1 to 2 second time delay on your shots from firing to impacting.

Does anyone else not feel like its about time consoles got dedicated servers? Its the one thing which is holding consoles back from really cutting the distance with pc gaming. Phewwww rant over.

I find the peer to peer setup ok to be honest.

Thankfully, broadband speeds are increasing so this probably helps.

I'd be happy if you could filter UK only games from within each games online game browser.

I do sometimes miss the mass 32 v 32 games you can have online with PC games and dedicated servers.

It will be interesting to see what network infrastructure the next consoles use - with MP abilities becoming more an expectation than an extra the next-gen consoles aswell as having great graphics etc will need a far better MP service to support it...

Dedicated servers, due to cost, just isnt the way forward IMO (though services like On Live may prove me wrong)...

On Live has nothing to do with dedicated MP servers.

No, but it still has something to due with cost of running large servers, which i believe the above poster was refering too.

I thought the whole reason live cost £40 a year was for stuff like dedicated servers?

That is actually a great point. The question is what do 360 users get extra for MP gaming wise to justify the £40 a year cost, compared to the ps3's free online capabilities. Dont get me wrong the x box dashboard etc is superior, i just think that considering the vast amount of people from different countries who play on live something new needs to be done. Not to mention it doesnt matter whether or not youve got a good connection if the host is from America. People who play games such as Gears and Halo will know where im coming from. Suprisingly though it doesnt seem to be as much of a problem on COD 4 and WAW :S.

Sorry yes, in this context I was referring to the cost of providing such a dedicated service - I must admit I wasnt too clear...
