Live vs PSN

Bear in mind that Live! has been in development for years, starting with the original XBox. Sony wont be able to bring PSN up to scratch over night.
But that has no relevance to which is better. Just because one took longer to develop doesn't mean there's an excuse for putting up with **** poor networking.

I refer you to my post above..

what on earth is a unified friends list ?

obviously didnt use my xbox online for long did i

is it just me that thinks the negatives you mentioned are hardly worth getting worked up about.

i notice you didnt mention the web browser either

ive just been playing Resistance online and haven't enjoyed console gaming as much for a long time !

i also tried "the warriors" ps2 game just because its the first one i picked up.......works fine and actually seems faster loading than i remember (maybe not) but OOPS you cant mug people very easy because you needed the vibration :o :p

It means everyone has just one ID no matter what the game it is they are playing.

As a result, you can see whichever of your friends are online, no matter what game they are playing or what game you are playing.

Not sure but if you get one of the PS2 controller converters, and use your dual shock and i guess it will rumble.

im pretty certain sony have the know how and spending power to of copied xbox live detail for detail

theyre obviously wanting to do things different and are putting all there eggs with this "home" thing which i assume is also free

...and for the price you guys have paid for the PS3, there should be no need to make excuses. Fact is the PS3 is a premium gaming console, at a premium price (amen :) ) and the idea of "making do for the time being" shouldn't come into to it at all imo. If i'd just paid close to £500 for a console i'd be fuming if everything wasn't working, its got nothing to do with it that the thing is new imo.

I can't disagree with that judging by most of his posts today.

But can you blame me though? I just spent over half a grand buying a PS3, a HDMI cable because Sony didn't package it with the console, an extra controller and two games which were supposed to be the two top ones at launch, but weren't that great anyway. After Sony's constant 'our penis is bigger than MS' penis', to get less than what MS offers is a slap in the face. It's like pulling a girl that looks like she has the most wonderful breasts in the world - only to find out she was wearing a wonderbra when you get to the bedroom

If I want to stand up and say 'look guys, we've been conned' then I will.

well sell it then, take it back to the shop and get a full refund, yes your within your rights to moan, but for most of us the Ps3 does whats its expected

It does work though, thats why im puzzled! You can play games online you can voice chat, add freinds etc does what it needs to do so whats the problem. Its not like you can buy stuff from our market place but you gotta pay £40 if you want to play online is it? Everyone buying a PS3 knows the online service is not as good as live atm but it still allows you to play online and is that what online gaming is about! Does anyone know how many of the 6 million live subs are gold or silver ?

Agreed.

If you don't like it, Take it back.

I think it's a fantastic piece of hardware, and i'm very excited about some of the upcoming games, Home/LBP and ofcourse a larger array of items on the Network.

If it's not for you, Which it doesn't seem to be, There's a very simple solution, Rebox it, and take it back.

The thing that does annoy me about PSN is the lack of private chat channels. I regularly do what Knives does, chat to my mate while he's playing his games and I'm playing mine. It's a huge loss for me.

I hate to tell you this but the original plasytation network was launched officially worldwide in march 2002, they have had 5 years to make any improvements and when you compare both systems, £35 a year is a small price to pay for a quality live service versus the extremely slow and poor playstation network, tried downloading resistance update 3 seperate times, theres a nice timer with an estimated download time but it was estimated at 25 minutes with a 10 meg connection, sadly all 3 times i tried to update it has failed, ive never had a failed update on live and ive never had an update take longer than 3-4 minutes.

All of you can complain about how it is free compared with live but come on get a life, it takes ages to load, updates crash, poor integration into games, it is even worse than the original xbox 1's live service, i would gladly pay up to £50 a year to get a decent working internet service, the only advantage i see that the playstation network has over xbox's is the fact they use prices to buy stuff instead of points, but by the time the page loads on my 10 meg connection ive fallen asleep and am no longer interested in it.

..

You all seem to have misunderstood me, so let me clarify..

Really, what I was trying to say is that Microsoft's Live! has had a considerable amount of time and money spent on it's development as a key part of Microsoft's console strategy. It is an integral part of the 360, and imo the console's biggest asset, a killer app if you will, that has been available right from the get-go.

Sony, on the other hand, even though PSN may have been launched 5 years ago, have not really put much effort into refining or developing their online system. As a result, it feels rather clunky and is not really a patch on Live! to which I'm sure most people who have experienced both would testify.

I'm having similar problems with PSN. DC all the time, despite being on a 10meg connection which works flawlessly with live. Pretty much given up on PSN for now. I'll give it another go in a week or so to see if it's any better.
