I've been approached about working there and whilst the job sounds ok and tax situation sounds great but I'm not too sure about the location.

Has anyone lived there that could give be a run down on what it would be like?

Thanks for the replies.

I lived there for 5 years, from '96 to '01. Went back for a visit last year for the TT and it hasn't changed much - what do you want to know?

I'm most interested in the social side of living there. With it only being 221sq miles and a population of 80,000 I'm wondering if it would be like living in a town that I can easily leave. Is there much to do?

I'd also be interested in house prices and what areas are good to live it / should be avoided.

It could get pricey seeing friends and family if you're always going to them. (This is the most common complaint from my housemate as she's now at uni in Liverpool and can't afford to go home as much as she wants.)

This is a big factor for me as my photography means I get around the UK a fair bit. Checking the photos I've got uploaded for 2007 it looks like I made 35 day trips. I wouldn't be able to do that from the Isle of Man. I would be looking at rather than doing 35 single trips, I'd have to full weeks less frequently but even then at 140 to 180 a round trip on the ferry it's going to get expensive.

I'm not sure about booking in advance I just looked at a couple of dates to gauge the price. I would need a car to get to all the locations I go to. Depending on where it is in the UK a flight and a hire car might work.

It could work if the pay and number of days holiday is right. :)
