Hi,

Does anyone know if you can get connected via an LLU ISP even if you are at a high exchange distance?

I don't expect more than 2mbit at 1.8+ miles from the exchange, but for £21 a month I can get a phone line & unlimited LLU from Sky.

Does this sound like a good route to go down rather than paying BT £13pm for the phone line and then getting an ADSL Max connection from somewhere, probably more expensive than the £21pm sky deal.

Be*'s coverage checker says it's unavailable at my address, although the exchange is Be enabled, so either LLU wont work at this range, or Sky offer it an Be don't

Thanks.

Are you sure you're on the exchange that you think you are?

Sky LLU is supposed to be very good and they remain unlimited so I'd say go with that.

Yep, well according to samknows (and sky coverage checker) and my postcode, there is an inactive BT socket in the flat so I don't have a phone number yet to try. Both Sky and Be offer LLU on the exchange.

As long as Sky LLU will definitely work at that range then it will be perfect, I don't want to order it and have them put me on a non-unlimited 8mbit package or something though which is my only concern.

LLU should work okay at distance, in fact ADSL2+ apparently works better than bog standard ADSL on longer lines. Another member, [TW]Fox, recently had O2 LLU installed on a line with 65+db attenuation which is probably something like 2.5 - 3+ miles long, so you should be alright.

Ok brilliant thanks :) Will get the phone + LLU all from Sky, not bad at all if it works out successfully at £21 a month.

EDIT:

If you are taking Sky Talk Line Rental with broadband, we should get you up and running in about 5-7 weeks

Grrr that's an epicly long wait :(

Should be fine at that distance. I got 2mb on standard ADSL and when Be became available I now get 5mb.

This is 3.4Km straight line according to Samknows, so in reality the distance will be even longer.

Im 2.56km away from my exchange and sync at the following 24/7 on Sky's LLU

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 5023 kbps 796 kbps
Line Attenuation 48.5 db 27.5 db
Noise Margin 7.7 db 13.2 db

So you should mostly likely get a bit more the you where thinking.
