Got a SSD on, two drives are also in, 1.5tb/2tb mechs.
When I load a program from one of the mechanical drive it makes a whirling noise.

It sounds like that, but without the crackling and grinding, it's just the actual whirl noise, it does it for a few seconds then it stops completely and goes silent again.
