I have completed an upgrade with i5 on a GA P55A UD4. It is running absolutely fine but at first start up it sometimes hangs at "Loading Operating System" and I have to power it off. Usually it starts ok after that and runs all day even with reboots etc.

I have disabled fast booting to see if something's not getting time to load. Can't pick up any google searches on this. Checked out the IDE (Default) v's AHCI thing but I don't think it's that. Currently set at default as I'm not raiding anything.

Thanks

Well I had this problem when using faulty RAM. Have you tried changing the RAM sticks around and different slots etc.

Hmm. Brand new OCZ Gold low voltage sticks 2 x 2gb in correct slots set to 1333mhz. I'll try switching them. Should RMA them if thats the case though as they were brand new last Thursday. Maybe I should run them at default 1066 but they're rated at 1600!

I'll do that.

Must admit when i bought the gear I wondered if PSU was ok for it. Its an OCZ 600w unit which has been running an A8n-SLI, Athlon 4800 X2, 4GB DDR, 2 x 8800GT and an Audigy 2 for a few years fine. I have done away with the audigy but kept the 2 x 8800GT's in the meantime (tho not an SLI/Xfire fan). Figured this GB board would have a lower power requirement if anything what with new technology and all.

Update. Had a BSOD at boot. 0xxx0000009c error. Restarted fine. Must emphasise this machine runs all day once it is started, plays games etc not a hitch. These problems only occur at strat up first thing. Goes to sleep, wakes up etc etc. It's like something's not initialising properly when started from cold.

Memtest 8 passes no probs. Switching graphics cards round with one at a time on primary PCIE slot. First 8800GT card still didn't boot. Try other card next. Next stop PSU or Hard Drive? Nothing else left after that. Really don't want to spend money on PSU if unnecessary. Currently an OCZ600w. Should be adequate. If I'm trying Hard Drive will have to reinstall windows on a new hard drive. No point using an old one. This system building/upgrading lark is a real pain. Still runs flawlessly all day after second attempt to boot which always succceeds.

Increased cpu voltage couple of notches. Cured cold boot problem, now locksup playing Assasisn Creed II. Back to optimised defaults with ram set to 1333. (Refuse to run it at 1066. Just ridiculous). Might have to get used to starting pc twice each morning! Wish i'd bought an AMD seup.
